lovely read
This book is a great gift for graduates, people growing up, & yourself. The best advice is simple. No wonder Vonnegut was fine with people thinking he wrote it, although he was honest & said the credit belonged to someone else. I'm glad to see Mary Schmich is getting her credit.

Charm of a gift!
This is a good little book to give for graduations, coming of age, special birthdays, and encouragement! Delightful! (It was one of Ms. Schmich's newspaper columns.)

Beautiful, sweet, poignant little book
Anyone that remembered the single 'Everybody's free to wear sunscreen' released back in the 90's (produced by Baz Luhrmann) will remember the impact the song had on it's audience. The story of how it all came together is apparently something quite legendary. The words were originally written for the Chicago Tribune by columnist Mary Schmich, written as a commencement speech she would have given if she were to be asked....however due to some misinformed viral emailing, subsequent confusion, rumours and urban legend, it found its way to Baz Luhrmann who was informed this was a commencement speech given by Kurt Vonnegut at MIT. After subsequent correspondence with Kurt to get legal permission to use the words it transpired it was not his writing at all, but he added the words were sweet and poignant and he would have been honoured to have been the author.Baz tracked down Mary, the true author, and within a short timestamp, the lyrics were narrated by voice actor Lee Perry and set against ambient music. Certainly in my circles, we all agreed the words and thoughts were sweet and poignant and extremely thought provoking, the music was beautiful and perfect. After revisiting the song recently, it's curious that now, 20 years later, the words and thoughts have become particularly relevant and particularly poignant.I always end up in tears whenever I listen to the song! Anyway, the fact that it especially resonates with me now, I decided to look into whether there was something like a framed print with the words that I could hang on the wall for inspiration and reflection, but instead found this little book, which I have to date purchased several copies of, in order to pass on to close friends and family that share my outlook on life. It's obviously the same words and thoughts as in the song, but beautifully presented a line or two across the page like an inspirational message. It still makes me smile, it still brings tears. Just beautiful.

The best & shortest book you will ever remember
Read NOW. It will put a smile on your face and then lingering on in your mind for as long as you can remember..... And in your heart, you'll say "Thank you, Mary Schmeichel." Oh, did l mention it's a great book/present for someone who is old enough to read and whom you care about very much? Bought this for my beautiful daughter and she was AMAZED!!
