Works great
Came fast via prime shipping, the unit itself was clean and in good condition. It didn't come with the tool someone else mentioned to make popping the tabs on the xbox system off easier, so I used a small flathead screwdriver. The drive works quietly and well. I used the solder method which seemed easier. Very painless and I had no soldering experience. Disassembling and reassembling the xbox was by far the hardest part, the actual chip swap was simple.I figured $32.00 for this, $12.00 for a soldering iron and $3.00 for a torx 10 screwdriver (needed to take the xbox apart) was a better value than a new xbox or spending $100 to have it repaired and lose it for weeks.

GLAD WE BOUGHT IT
My son's XBOX 360's DVD drive stopped working (we would put a disk in and it would say "open tray" even if it had a brand new disk). We chose to replace the whole drive rather than just a part of it because it seemed so reasonable in price to do it all at once. (Other parts were +\-$12 each depending on what was wrong with it.)After reading another customer's review that they fixed it themselves, we decided to give it a try.One choice was to "flash" the drive - which involved getting the broken drive's KEY CODE off of it (via the computer) and putting it on the new dvd drive. We chose to go the other route - and take the OLD MOTHERBOARD (which contains the KEY CODE) from the broken drive and install it onto the NEW DVD DRIVE. It required desoldering and soldering the connective wires - for which we found a tutorial online. Since then, I read one person's (veng3nce2k)suggestion to get around the soldering: "you can save yourself the soldering and just cut the wires in the middle and twist them together using electrical tape to secure it" at: [...]BOTTOM LINE: SUCCESS! We were able to figure out how to replace the broken DVD DRIVE with the NEW DVD DRIVE and it works!! The XBOX 360 is up and running. EASY BREEZY! YOU CAN DO IT, TOO!!

Be Cautious!
This was the second DVD drive I purchased for my XBOX360. The first one was the wrong manufacturer. Be sure it is the same company and you see the same numbers on both drives. Switched out the PCB board (Green Silicon Card) from inside original drive to new drive. Requires a little bit of soldering on some small wires. The drive I bought said new but I would have to guess it's refurbished cause there was some really ugly looking soldering on the PCB board and wires weren't tucked away like the original drive. But after installing the new drive. It works great!Cheap Fix considering the price of a new or used XBOX.

Very Low Standards
The drive I recieved was in very poor condition. The drive is incapable of playing any disc at all (and yes, I know about flashing). The problem is, the pc board inside was broken off from its screws, and whoever "refurbished" this device thought that it would be a grand idea to reattach the board using some sort of hot glue or similar substance. In theory, the drive should still work this way (although it makes connecting any cables to it a battle), but the drive cannot function, because whoever reattached the board made no effort to place it properly and totally missed the mounting points for the board. The result of this folly is that there is literally no clearance between the board and the laser, and the laser cannot move to read the disc. Not to mention that this makes the drive make a horrendous noise that makes you fear for the wellbeing of your disc (although the issue on its own will likely not harm the disc). A drive in this shape should have never hit the shipping docks.

Perfect replacement for my XBOX 360 DVD drive.
With so many different DVD drives in XBOX 360 consoles, it can be very difficult finding the correct replacement DVD drive. Need to match Manufacturer, Model, Part No., HW Version, etc. to insure smooth replacement. After checking out numerous vendors, this vendor was the only one I came across with information on their posting showing an exact match for the existing DVD drive in my console. As I've replaced numerous XBOX and XBOX 360 DVD drives, I find easiest method is to desolder circuit board from both old and new drives, then solder circuit board from old DVD drive into new drive. Including time to open up console, remove old drive, switch circuit boards, install new drive (with old circuit board), close console, and hook back up to TV and other accessories, takes me less than an hour. I have never experienced any problems with this method. Just reading the instructions for flashing a new drive gives me a headache. Also, item received sooner than expected, which was an extra bonus.

Did the trick!
Worked great to replace old Xbox drive. I had to exchange the circuit board out of the old drive so this new drive would be recognized. Strange security feature in the Xbox. Its like a new Xbox now.

Not pretty, but works
Obviously pulled from another system. Exterior of the DVD tray looked like someone used pliers to open it. Circuit board inside missing one screw to secure it. That being said, it did work as a replacement drive and I haven't experienced any read errors yet.
