In 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company (Onitsuka Co., Ltd.) by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan. He chose the name ASICS for his company in 1977, based on a famous Latin phrase "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano," which, when translated, expresses the ancient ideal of "A Sound Mind in a Sound Body." Taking the acronym of this phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief that the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness. Today, ASICS offers a full line of performance-driven athletic shoes and technical active sports apparel and accessories dedicated to bringing harmony to the body and soul. Review: Aching Arches - I picked these for Zumba class based on good reviews (reviews suggested a shoe with little/no tread/not a running shoe). They look cool, but just don't provide enough support for my feet (regular arch, narrow foot, no other foot/ankle issues). I was loving Zumba but had to stop often because my arches were burning and cramping. The insole provides very little cusion so I tried putting insoles in. I also tried tying my laces tighter to prevent my narrow foot from moving too much. I continued wearing for several weeks thinking I needed to just 'break them in'. Nothing helped. Finally I asked my Zumba instructor and she suggested getting Nike Free Runs (She owns several pairs). Ironically she suggested running sneakers which I thought you weren't supposed to use for Zumba. She had never heard such a thing. She also shared a great money saving tip. I purchased a paif of youth Free Runs in a size 5 (I wear a women's 6) and ended up paying about half the price of the adult verison! The youth sizes also come in fun "Zumba'ish" colors! I'll wear the Asics for just hanging around or doing errands but never again in the gym. Review: Light shoe, perfect for Zumba! - I have danced in a lot of shoes and have found these to be perfect for Zumba. They're not as great for jazz dance as they do have some traction, so they don't slide as easily with some dance moves. BUT, for zumba, they're awesome -- they allow your feet to move as they should. They provide enough support for my hour class, and my feet don't hurt at the end. The toe part is also really comfortable. They are true to size.

comfortable with good support
I ordered size 8 (my normal size) but had to exchange for 8.5 since these tend to run shorter and my toes were up against the tip. They are wide enough in the front, but just a bit shorter so I recommend going for half size larger. I wore them 3x in my Zumba class and they are great for all the jumps, pivots and directional changes that go with this style of exercise. I was having a slight knee problem before but since I switched to these shoes, my knee seems OK. I really like these shoes - light enough but with ample support.

No arch support at all, very little cushioning
I ordered these based on reviews and a list for "best Zumba shoes" - They may slide more easily on the floor like a dance shoe over a running shoe, but for me, to be on my feet for an hour moving around, I need cushioning and arch support so that my knees, back, and neck don't suffer too much. These shoes, while cute, just have zero arch support (they are completely flat inside), I felt that they would not fulfill my athletic requirements. I'm going to try cross trainers or running shoes without heavy treads, instead for Zumba.

Ok I guess.
I liked the lightness and the look of this shoe. The perfect size for me is a 10 1/2 but I ordered an 11 because reviews said order up. What didn't work for me was it was rather wide in the toe box area and I tend to be on the narrow side so when I tighten the lace, the shoe was all bunched up. I could have exchanged it for a 10 1/2 but the "bunching" was too much already. I just returned the shoe.

Perfect for Zumba
I tried Zumba for the first time recently and I wore my running shoes. Ouch! It hurt my knees. So I bought these cross trainers and Wow! It was heaven! I could turn, kick, glide, twist with ease, grace and energy with no strain on my knees and my feet were not tired at all. I call these my "athletic ballet shoes". I recommend these for any dance-type exercise class. As for the fit, I ordered a half size larger (I wear a 10 1/2 and I ordered an 11) and it fit me perfectly.

Great shoe just inspect what you get...
I first ordered these in my usual general shoe size - 8 1/2 - and they fit perfectly, looked great, were comfy, and generally wonderful. However, I have just started training for a half marathon and friends were warning me to purchase a shoe size larger than my usual. Somewhat skeptical I returned the 8.5 and ordered a 9. When I got them I was really excited until I put them on. One shoe was perfect and all the things the previous pair was, but the other was made wrong. It fit somewhat like it was on the wrong foot. The line of the shoe laces typically point to the end of the shoe in a straight line, but the left shoe's laces were angled more towards the right. I am returning these as well and ordering the ASICS Blur instead. Make sure both shoes are right before you cut the tag off and toss the box!

Just weird
I like low-profile shoes, especially for Zumba, and I liked that these didn't have a bulky sole or tall heel. But that's where the compliments end. When I wore the shoe, I felt like my foot was too wide for the sole, like I was always sliding off onto the sides of the shoe. I have a very narrow foot, and this has never been an issue with other shoes before. The gel cushioning combined with the material made the shoe noisy when I moved. The shape of the shoe was long, even though it was my correct size, and it made me feel less stable. The design of the shoe--the way the seams cut across the toe area--look strange too. Everything about it was strange. I wore it this shoe for a couple months to give it the ol' college try, but I regretted buying it despite the good deal I got.
