The BEST kind of Foucauldian anthropological research out there. A clear text demonstrating the guidelines of ethical, insightful and professional ethnographic/cultural studies writing. Once I've read Encountering Development, there's no other way to understand development discourses--and I come from a country dominated by those. This is how powerful it is. Also Professor Escobar is like THE coolest, kindest and smartest professor out there.

great book, the author is makes extremely elaborate yet easy to understand points.Anyone looking to be involved in the world of development in any way should read this book. You do not have to agree with the author, but at least be aware of the pitfalls of development that he maps out. and at the very least answer to them.

A classic text improved with the new introduction.

Very sound text on post development. It provides introspection into the field of development and suggests an alternative to this, hence the making of the post development theory.

Exceptionally insightful into the mechanics of neocolonialism.

The publication date was listed as 2011 however this is the 1995 publication which was not the desired book.
