B102 Pool Alarm Base Station

My boyfriend and I bought a house with a pool a few months ago. One of my Maltese dogs, George, walked right into the pool because he'd never been near a pool before. I was able to get him out quickly that time. After that, I assumed he learned to stay away from it. (Bad decision on my part.) Well, recently I went out back to shush the other dogs from barking (we have doggie doors), and George was in the pool. Maltese are not good swimmers, and he was barely afloat by the time I got to the pool. I almost lost my little guy. So, I quickly began my search for a solution, and fencing in the pool itself is way out of budget.I was contemplating getting those alarms that go off with the breaking of the surface of the water, but we have an automatic pool skimmer, which would set it off regularly. I bought this base station and the pool sensor with Velcro strap (sold separately) to tie to the dog's collar. I tested it with a small glass of water, and the alarm sounded immediately! The sensor is also lightweight. I was afraid the sensor might have been to heavy for my dog's neck, but it is not. Testing for the sensor battery is done from a button on the base. The sensor comes with a color-coded mini-turtle that plugs into the base. All other sensors need to be of the same color for them to register on the same base, so if I buy additional sensors, I'll be sure to get them the same color as this one.I work from home, so this is an excellent solution for me. I realize that I cannot be home 100% of the time to monitor if George falls in the pool, but it greatly reduces the chances of a fatal accident for those times I am home.Although a little pricey (even at the excellent prices on this website), it is worth every penny.

Buyer Beware...The B102 Base Station does not work with the Safety Turtle 2.0 Wristbands. The Wristbands that worked with the B102 Base Station have a limited life due to an unchangeable battery. You can no longer purchase wristbands that work with the B102 Base Station so once your original wristbands are past the suggested battery life... your B102 Base Station is useless. Safety Turtle changed the wristbands/Base Station with Safety Turtle 2.0 but appear to have left previous customers out in the cold by not making the new wristbands backwards compatible with the B102 Base Station and by not continuing to offer the original wristbands.Buyer Beware... your product may not last as long as you think if Safety Turtle makes changes, doesn't make them backwards compatible and stops supplying the older version.

As a water detection device this works great. Unfortunately that means it goes off anytime it gets slightly wet like when my son is washing his hands. It also takes a very long time to dry and the alarm is incredibly loud, so it seems to be unplugged most of the day waiting for it to dry which defeats the purpose of having it. But while it is on and he's wearing it I do feel safer when he is anywhere near the pool.

We have a new pool installed and have 4 adult kids and 7 young grandkids (1-6 years). We bought 7 turtle bands and have used 4 so far:1. I tested 4 Turtles in the kitchen facet in the test mode. Alarmed immediately and quit with gentle shake and superficial towel dry.2. One false alarm when our 1 1/5 year old grandson licked the Turtle on his wrist (we moved it to his leg). Quick towel dry stopped the alarm.3. The parents and grandkids love them (the little turtle was a great idea). The two 6 year old boys swim so their parents didn't think they needed them. One of the boys wanted one anyway.I plan to take this to Destin on vacation in May. All of us are renting a large home with pool and it will help us all feel safer with the little kids.

Well I'm glad I waited to post a review. This was the greatest thing when I first got it. We moved into a new home and I hadn't been able to figure out how to keep my little blind dog from getting into the pool. He loves to be outside and when I"m out there naturally he goes nowhere near the pool but when my back is turned or I go inside he goes right in. I put the turtle on his collar and it worked perfectly. He falls in and the alarm goes off. Totally eased my mind. I did build a safety fence so he could bypass the pool but left the collar on just as an added safety feature incase someone left one of the other sliding glass doors open and he got into the pool area. Then the false alarms started. In the middle of the night my husband is out there searching the dark pool and we find him still in the bed sleeping. We've been gone and come back to the house with the alarm blaring and found him sleeping in his bed. The late night early mornings are the worse times and he has not even moved from the bed. I have tried every suggestion from the manufacturer for resetting the system. Just to make sure that it isn't dog drool or something, I took it off and put it in a drawer. False alarms again. So not sure why it worked so well in the beginning but I've unplugged until the summer. I'll still use it during the day when there is activity around the pool but we'll leave it unplugged at night.

Has saved our dogs a couple of times. Well worth the investment. We have a pool and a pond and they have fallen into both. One time in the middle of the night. I have used this alarm when my husband is gone. I put a glass of water next to my bed and I can quickly drop the turtle in and it will make an extremely loud noise. Have owned this for 6 years now and the company has been great with any questions and replacement parts.

This ítem is a must if you have a pool or you are going to a friend's pool, lake , etc.It responds IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!! As soon as the turtle touches the water the alarm sounds!I found out that little kids don't like to have the turtle as a wrist band, so no problem, it can be worn around the ankle.I have a sleepwalker grandson, he is thirteen, and when he comes to my house I always set the house alarm because he may walk out at night and have an accident in the pool. With the turtle, it has been such a relief to know that if he gets out by accident I will know immediately!!!Don't hesitate, this is a marvelous invention!
