I have previously used Studio from version 8 (around 2002) to version 15. I liked the easy to navigate layout and the array of features. Studio 21 was a bit of a surprise when I first installed it. The layout was somewhat different from what I had been used to in previous versions and I wasn't sure if I liked the change. However, having completed 3 projects on it in the last month, I have to say that this is the best version yet.I have the "Ultimate" version of Studio 21 and have found the wealth of features staggering, compared to the previous versions. It is so much more powerful and I've barely scratched the surface with regards to its capabilities. The tutorials are excellent (and definitely a must) for users of all levels. I have acquired a new powerful pc to make the most of this program, and it is whizzing through my projects with ease ... no more waiting for ages for edits and completed projects to render. I still have a lot to learn about this new version, and it will take a while to even try to sample a lot of what it has to offer, but I look forward to discovering more of its capabilities. This version definitely has more of a learning curve compared to previous ones, and new users may find some of the features a bit of a struggle initially, but it is worth taking the time to get to know the program (and viewing the tutorials) as the end results will be very satisfying. I have no hesitation in recommending Studio 21.It is a fantastic and powerful piece of software, and a bargain for the price (I paid £80 for the Ultimate version)

Why?
I've been using Corel VS since version x, or maybe y, with each year featuring another mammoth attempt to annoy you into buying the next version. Forget fixing all the issues with the previous release, just buy the new release that features even MORE issues.Sure, eventually, Corel does fix major problems but simple issues, such as the application crashing when changing the text size. Overall it's an easy package to learn, providing some great results, but while FREE applications such as Resolve exist, all that's stopping me from using that is the fact that I would have to learn everything again.More fool me.P.s. You can chuck a monster 6 core, M.2. raided ninja machine at VS and it'll still run like treacle when editing 4K video. (Yes, the Smart Proxy is enabled.) Before buying visit the corel VS forum for an idea of what you're getting into.

I really like this software and would have rated 5 star but even though I've a high spec PC running Windows 10 (I'm a photographer and videographer so it needs to be high spec), it gets clunky and stalls or shuts down a fair bit. It has a bit of a learning curve too but it is Corel a good manufacturer and it is feature rich in its offerings. There's a lot to this software as well. I would recommend you don't import 'large' or lengthy HD video files to its project. Trim them in Movie Maker first then import what you need and build your project in this application. You'll be happier for it!

Pinnacle 21 Ultimate
Now Pinnacle is now a video editing suite that really works and stands well ahead of other non professional editing programes. Well done Corel, you've taken Pinnacle from being buggy, frustrating and very annoying, to the one the others will have to beat. It's a high learning curve for a beginner but stick with it, you'll be rewarded for all your hard work. Downside, yes, far, far to many annoying and useless bloatware "affects". I'm sure they please a section of the North American, (not you Canada) purchasers but they clutter up a really excellent programe. Pinnacle user since V9. PS, from experience, never buy/upgrade to a whole number version, stick with odd number versions.

Lots of whistles and bells.
big step up from version 15 studio HD ultimate. But quicker with many short cuts in editing. will take me a while to learn to drive well and understand all the features. having used pinnacle software before the new version feels familiar and not too intimidating to use.

because the program is very easy to use and has lots of good features
Too many bugs in important areas of use. I can live with the minor ones but to put out a program that will not export (since fixed with a patch) and to have an advertised voice over that fails to work is inexcusable. A pity, because the program is very easy to use and has lots of good features. Corel need to act more quickly in resolving issues however.

Frequently crashes and fails to render video
The range of functions is great, particularly the variable speed, time-remapping, pan/zoom and picture-in-picture. Unfortunately most of it is unusable because after hours of editing on various projects and frequent crashes it then fails to render, either giving an error message or just crashing. Used on a modern Windows 10 laptop with 32 GB memory so it can easily deal with HD video editing but the software is very unstable and unfortunately not usable.
