Not exactly what I was expecting.

It works as advertised. No remote (but so what?)
This is exactly what I was looking for. It works great for a 20 - some - odd year player. I bought it for my Uncle so he could watch his old VHS tapes along with dvds without having to deal with two different media players. It doesn't come with a remote but it works with universal ones. It's worth buying if this is what you're looking for.

NO REMOTE or Manual TV can't recognize the system, paraplegic is using it can't walk remote needed! Don't know if this is a good or bad system, can't use it, it did arrive on time so can't saying anything bad about the entire transaction.

It does not record on to DVD, even tho it clearly says on front of player, dvr. Disappointing!
Bought to record family movies to disc, wont happen, even tho it say "dvr" on the front of player

Average at best
It's just 'okay' because it plays back ye olden VHS tapes and ...most DVDs. So far only store bought media can be played without freezing/stuttering all throughout. If you or someone you know has quite an extensive and cherished video collection who doesn't feel (or can afford) to have everything on disc this is a good option. I know some folk in their 50s on up who considered this option, casual viewers and more.Obviously not recommended for cinephiles who more than likely have their own video hardware however there's no reason this product should be dismissed as something to start off with and build from here. If I were to be really nitpicky, I'll attack the startup time which is substantially longer than most modern media playback devices but not enough to fuss over. At the time of this review I'm testing this with 'the Wizard of Oz' on a 24" LED TV using basic A/V connectors so, yes, it works on modern televisions or that 30-year-old CRT TV grandma refuses to get rid of.
