Owly, Vol. 3: Flying Lessons Paperback – January 5, 2006

In one of my art classes we had to do a series of drawings that conveyed meaning and dialogue without actually having words. My teaching assistant brought it the first book of this series because the artist Andy Runton does just that with this series. It is about a vegetarian owl and his forest friends learning different lessons, meeting new animals and much more. I met the artist at comic con and am hooked on these. My small brother also loves these because I read these to him, but since they have no words I have to come up with them myself and It can definetly be entertaining.

A strange mammal, fear and distrust, and an injury to a friend drive Owly back to taking up the flying lessons he was unable to master in school. The standout moment comes at the end, when a character gives him an unorthodox perspective on learning to fly. A good lesson on how sometimes the conventional methods work, and sometimes the unconventional methods work better. All ages should "read" this.

I love Owly, and Andy Runton for putting pen to paper and creating such a sweet, lovable character.If Owly came in a board book, I would recommend this series to all new moms.It's still the perfect book style to share with your children. Every Owly story will inspire conversation.I'd recommend Owly to ages 4 to 10 years... And to anyone who wants to spend a moment in a precious tale.

Great for the imagination

This book was bought for a (VERY) gifted 7 year old. He absolutely LOVES this series. I got him Nos. 1-4, and he was ecstatic with all of them.

Bah, just go out and pick up all three (soon to be four) Owly books. You'll be glad you did. See the other positive reviews for the first three volumes if you really need a reason - or just google Andy Runton and check out the samples available on his site.

Love Owley books I have several but over priced

The author is a genius! Simple and comprehensive stories without needing a story reading. Perfect to keep the children busy during vacations while parents read the newspaper!:)

Love these books. my kids are 7 and 9 and they both love the graphic novel style stories. Not haivng words to read allows them to use their imagination throughout the book.
