If you can't be in Hawaii, Hawaii 50 is the next best thing 8th season
Background to review.... 8th SeasonWe have found that if you can't be in Hawaii, 50 is the next best thing. We have been to Hawaii 4 times in the last 9 years. We love it and can't get enough of it. Last Christmas my sister-in-law gave me a gift card. I had purchased all the Magnum PI seasons that I could so I decided to give H50 a try as my late mother was a faithful 50 fan. I was pleasantly surprised by H50 Season 1. Now besides Magnum PI I can get my Hawaiian fix between trips with H50. Well we developed a craving for H50 so that I have purchased and viewed all 7 seasons and 3/4 the way through season 8.I have found that all the H50 seasons are great 1 through 8. They seem to get better and better with scripts and settings. The only thing that could have been better is if they had more local actors to mix the blend of them from episode to episode. What I mean by that is in this week's episode you will have one actor playing a really bad guy and next week he or she is back as a good guy. This is a similar pattern that started with The 60's in "Wild Wild West" where that used the same group of bit actors over and over again. Robert Conrad commented that this made them a winning team because of the relationships formed. However this process in any series can be a little monotonous as in "West" or in Hawaii 50.The other question came to me: Why wasn't a movie made of H50? If it was good enough for older TV series like the Lone Ranger why not a movie of Hawaii 50?Finally, since I am running out of H50 episodes, I hope that fellow fans like all of you will look at a predecessor of H50 namely "Hawaiian Eye" DVDs which are currently Out of Stock by Amazon. If enough of you put yourselves on the "Wait List" it would make it available with large requests. In conclusion I recommend all Hawaii 50 seasons 1-8. I haven't gotten to "9" yet. I love the 8th season.....Mahalo,AlohaPhil

Top Shelf Quality
I'm now in the 8th season of watching the original Hawaii Five-O episodes starring Jack Lord. Everything is good about these DVD's - high resolution picture, perfect sound, and very compelling stories - as good as I recall the original broadcasts being in the 70's. One thing you'll note is the quality of the guest stars - new and different in each episode. Many of them went on to become famous later in their careers. The Five-O series ran for 12-years, a record for crime TV that would endure for 35-years. Credit producer Leonard Freeman, lead actor Jack Lord, and the fabulous writers and cast members for an amazing achievement.

McGarrett Rules!
I grew up watching this series. I was 6 years old when it first aired and both my parents and I watched it religiously. I was never so happy as when I found out this series was available on DVD... whoo hooo! :D I honestly think this was one of the greatest shows to ever air on US television. It's always interesting, always good. Not every show is a diamond, but no show is. I just received Season 8 and am on the second disc now and just love it. Some of the shows I DO remember oddly enough and some I don't. The particular episode I'm watching now stars James MacArthur's mother, Helen Hayes and it's very cool to see them act together. I reccommend Hawaii 5-O to anyone who likes crime drama without all the gore and language in today's shows. Like my review title says..'McGarrett Rules!' ..and always will! This show ran from 1968 until 1980. It starts with Wo Fat and ends with Wo Fat.. :D who is a great actor himself..but I can't think of how to spell his name right now..lol Buy this with confidence and enjoy!

The fifth "star" takes center stage!
Still going strong after seven years, "Hawaii Five-O's" eighth season continues the superb and timely storytelling, stellar guest star casting, and four-man teamwork - represented this year by stars Jack Lord, James McArthur, Kam Fong, and, now moved into the forefront, Herman Wedemeyer as Duke. However, this season seams to really take advantage of the "fifth star": the magnificent scenery of the show's location filming. Beautiful skies, picturesque beaches, landmarks, and stunning architecture provide magnificent backdrops for the stories that range from espionage to captivating crime cases to tales incorporating the cutting edge technology of the day. While some fans consider the later years not as engaging as the first five seasons, season eight is just as good as its predecessors. Unfortunately, the show was on its last few legs, with only two more worthy seasons left, with the last two only for devotees of the show...of which this reviewer is still one.

A fun show from the past
This show always was lots of fun to watch. The episodes are interesting and contain many guest stars from the era when they first aired. Action yes, but not violent the way so many shows are today. The acting is first rate.

Another good show--
I totally enjoy the Hawaii 5-0 series. I was young when they first came out and I remember the theme music and my dad watching them in the evenings. The shows of the late 60's into the early 70's were in my opinion, capped some of the best television shows that were ever produced. And it helps that I love the scenic beauty of the Hawaiian landscape before the huge population influx! I grew up in Southern California during that era so the buildings, fashion and the cars were unique and similar to those shown in Hawaii. To me, the acting is quite good as are "Danno" along with Chin, equally great and it of course would not be the same without Jack Lord. I am hopelessly sentimental about '50's - '70's television and therefore quite happy with this series! Not to mention that I waited many years to be able to purchase them...

Another good season
The DVD's arrived quickly and in good condition. Picture and sound are of good quality. In season eight Steve McGarrett has come into a more mature statesman-type role. In "Murder - Eyes Only" we see McGarrett in his role in uniform as a naval reserve officer serving his annual two week deployment, and solving a case of espionage involving Wo Fat. "The Case Against McGarrett" again pits Louis Vashon in a plot against McGarrett, to exact revenge for his son's death. (Spoiler: McGarrett prevails. lol) Episodes in the latter seasons are somewhat hit and miss, but there's some enjoyable watching here.
