Living Language Hebrew, Essential Edition: Beginner course, including coursebook, 3 audio CDs, and free online learning Unabridged Edition

The product was coated with perfume when it arrived. Given that I have allergies to most perfumes, I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS. The outer covers were a lost cause but I managed to wipe the back of the books and the CD case with alcohol and get most of the perfume off of them. I will update this review after I've used the product if the perfume on it doesn't get me first.I've started using it and the other reviewers were right, it gives you a lot for your money. (Though the price has gone up a lot recently.) However, I already knew how to read Hebrew and had already studied Biblical Hebrew including a good bit of grammar when I started. I got this so I could learn some modern Hebrew. This program doesn't do a very good job teaching the Hebrew alphabet. It covers it but in a hard to follow fashion. I would recommend buying a Hebrew primer (such as "Teach Yourself to Read Hebrew" by Ethelyn Simon published by EKS) to use with it.As some other reviewers have noted, it covers a lot of the same subjects in the intermediate and advanced books as it does in the essential book but it adds a lot more vocabulary and more complexity. And the subjects are the most important ones to cover. For example the essential book has lessons on "people and the family", "around the house" "around town" "at work", etc. While the intermediate book has units on "talking about your family", "everyday life", "school and work", "getting around town and asking for directions", etc. The topics in the advanced book are a bit different and include "shopping", "at the restaurant", "sports and hobbies" and "doctors and health". There is a lot of repetition but I think that is a good quality for a language program. I would recommend this series as a good way to learn Hebrew except for its coverage of the Alef Bet.

Shalom Erev'Tov.This is definitely the product you want to purchase if you are considering a comprehensive study course to learn Hebrew. I'm only on lesson 2 and I've built my basic vocabulary fairly quickly in four days since beginning my study. This course from Living Library offers an amazing format for beginners to advanced students. I enjoy the reactions I receive from having just a small knowledge of the Hebrew language, especially from women lol. The lessons are firm, fun and won't put you to sleep. If you have just a few hours a day to listen to the audio CD and work through the exercises, you can make this course work exceptionally well. I'm 34 and I find it relatively easy to retain the information I've learned into the following days from the previous. You may want to consider a good hebrew-english/English-hebrew dictionary to assist your speeded development in learning this language. Ones that contain modern day slang terms and abbreviations. I found one for $18.00 used that is $40.00+ brand new. As long as it's in good condition, I'd recommend getting one. Also, it would be within you best interest to download a "fluency in Hebrew" subliminal from YouTube, that you can convert to mp3 and loop all night while asleep. It will work wonders on your learning curve! Lehitra'ot!

This is one of the best language courses I have come across in a very long time!!! I have had an interest in Hebrew since the age of 10 (24 years ago) and I have seen many courses of varying qualities from worst (Teach Yourself Complete Hebrew) to the best.This course is an amazing course for conversational Hebrew and is a very good first step to get you to at least a B2-C1 level on the common european framework. I only have one real complaint and that is the use of Nikud throughout the course at all levels. Hebrew as written in Israel doesn't use vowel points and unless you wean yourself off of the as you go, they become an unnecessary crutch.The pathway I am going to be using is1. Living language Hebrew2. Ha-yesod this course is very heavy in grammar and can also serve as an introduction to the biblical language.3. FSI Basic Hebrew ...This course has an amazing about of audio (over 100 hours all in Hebrew) and will serve as a great listening comprehension course but I don't recommend it for beginners since it was designed for a classroom environment and a very intensive one at that.All in all, you can't go wrong with this course especially for the price.

Easy learning for beginners and very professional to go step by step.

The entire package is fundamental to learning. The CD's and books work in tandem with your progress and combined is a very supportive resource, in gaining a better understanding of the language, whether you have a Tutor or learning as an individual. An excellent buy.

To make it short - I have tried several courses and after two years of relatively poor results I am making quick steps forward since I've bought "Living Language Hebrew". The Assimil one is good as well, but the system of Assimil ceases to work after 50 lessons. As for all the other Hebrew-courses: they lack the vowel signs, which make it next to impossible to learn the language without a teacher.Living language offers very clear explanations and all the words come with the vowel signs. The texts and vocabulary are chosen well, after a couple of weeks the learner is able to speak his first own sentences. I am grateful I found this course. And I am really glad I bought it trusting my good luck - it is a pity that Amazon doesn't allow a glimpse inside the book. So, for everybody who is interested in learning modern Hebrew: this book enables you to do it!

This product is legit. I have to move to Israel in a couple of months. Hence I need a tutor. But I couldn't find one. So I purchased this product and it is very helpful. the method of learning is very easy and user friendly.
