Gothica (Fringe Killer Series) Paperback – May 6, 2011

***I received a free e-copy of this novel in exchange for a fair review*** I accidentally missed the first novel in this series, but I didn't feel as though I didn't understand the characters and what was going on. Jack does a fantastic job of bringing his readers up to speed without doing a blow-by-blow that feels like a "last week on..." segment. Gothica is dark, and brutal at times, and it can be hard to read. However, it is also an amazing story, and I would not have missed it for the world! Two thumbs up, will read this novel again!

I enjoyed Wallen's first novel "A Blade Away" enough to want to read the sequel. There was no disappointment here because "Gothica" is even better. Wallen's writing leans towards prose - lyrical flow and beautiful imagery. "Gothica" is at times shocking and disturbing - I found myself needing to put the book down several times for a breather because my heart was pounding. It is an intense ride from start to finish. This was a fantastic book and I can't wait for the next Fringe Killer novel!
