The Dentist 2: Brace Yourself

I liked it better than the first
Chances are if you reading the reviews of this, you have already seen the first, which is more or less Falling Down with a totally crazy dentist. The second picks up where the first left off, with Feinstone starting all over in a new town. It's only a matter of time before he reverts to his old ways. From there on out, the film is basically a countdown before it all falls apart.I liked this film a lot more than the first. The original didn't have much going on in the background, it was nearly exclusively focused on the dentist himself. The police investigating him were an extremely minor element of the story, which made the overall movie a bit bland. However in this, the director was able to reference and include elements from the first film, in order to create a much richer storyline, with a private investigator looking for him, the townsfolk researching him, and more. Without these aspects, it would be basically a recreation of the original. But with them, it is improved significantly.

“Pulling teeth is like, well, pulling teeth.”
Dr. Alan Feinstone (Corbin Bernsen) is as crazy as ever but he thinks he has the insanity under control. And he tells this to a psychiatrist as he is pulling a blade out of his leg to use on her. The loon escapes confinement and heads for Paradise, Missouri where he has hidden the money the IRS is after. As luck would have it, the town needs a new dentist after Alan “accidently” kills their only other dentist. Benefits all around, he also finds a new target for romance. But can he remain lucid long enough to convince anyone that he isn’t a danger. Something his second victim fails to realize when he proudly recognizes the lunatic and is willing to put a name to the face. “I know you! The crazy dentist!”Definitely as weird as the first film, so one wonders why they didn’t continue and turn this into a series, especially considering the ending would allow for that.

Just as well made, just more disturbing than the predecessor
more disturbing than the first. Even after seeing the first it's impressive how great a villain Corbin Bernsen is in this. He is a messed up dude. It's as well made as the first, and a competent sequel, I only gave it one star less because the squirm factor was in overdrive in this, but that's the fine line between entertainment and repulsion that horror walks on.

"..AS CRAZY AS THE ORIGINAL.."
This review is for the movie and the Spanish Blu-ray import (plays in the English language)PLOT...Dr Caine, the murdering dentist from the original movie, has escaped from the mental hospital, Hoping to resume a normal life, he makes his way to a quiet Midwestern town under a false name and takes on the responsibilities of the town dentist. Things are starting to look up for Caine, until the day when he catches his new love in the arms of someone else. Just as in the first movie, this sends him back over the edge and into another homicidal rampage.Yet again another crazy over the top cheesy horror sequel, but very entertaining none the less, Corbin Bernsen is back as the psycho dentist who goes on yet another spree of gory bloody mouth carnage enough to make you never want to see a dentist ever again, if your afraid of dentists don't watch because its worse the second time round with some gnarly bloody gory dentistry going on with better looking budget practical effects, the gore is the star of these movies of course, worth checking out if love a bit of horror, directed once again by Brian Yuzna (Beyond Re-Animator, Return of the living dead 3)Blu-ray has a good HD picture. No features. Region B UK. Running time 100min UNCUT 1998.Spanish Blu-ray plays in the original English language, subtitles turn off.Reversible sleeve with original art.

YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS BEFORE YOU BUY
It doesn't bother me at all but it might put others off purchasing.. The English Soundtrack is great, but you cannot remove the Castellano subtitles even if you choose not to have them on the set up menu or through your remote control.. I'm partially deaf so uses to subtitles anyway but I know some people would find it hard to watch for this reason

Buy the region 1 DVD
Its a great film but don't bother with this version, the infamous torture scene has several bits missing on this UK version so but the US region 1 release which is fully uncut!
