Neil Young in the 80's
Very good album, shows the creativity of Neil Young. I used to have this on cassette tape and wore it out listening to it. Now I'm an older guy and find myself going back and buying these treasures from the 80's again, I think it's unique. You can't just keep doing the same thing over and over.

Not his best but worthy
Neil Young's "Life" was not the best CD but it is worthy, and this is knowing that Neil was not happy in his contract with Geffen Records. Many people have knocked the songs on this CD, but to me, I hear the grunge sound for which he's famous on "Too Lonely," "Prisoners of Rock N Roll," and "Cryin Eyes." There's a heartfelt tribute to war veterans with "Long Walk Home" that has the feel of some older stuff. Now, the difference is there is experimentation - a feel for trying to give the music a feel for its period in sales appeal, and this may be what Young was unhappy with and many fans may say fooled with the "brand" that is Young. I disagree, although I think artists should stay "true" I think it is worthy to break new ground and I think the synthesizer on "MidEast Vacation," the sound effects on "Inca Queen" and the synth breathing on "We Never Danced" at least shows an effort to try and break new ground. Granted, "Mideast Vacation" feels a bit too lengthy, as does "Inca Queen," but at least it's a valiant attempt by an artist, who when struggling with his artistic honesty and credibility, did keep his lyrics and music base to the songs honest. In "Inca Queen," there is some nice guitar work and "Long Walk Home" gives us a stripped down harmonica and piano to help set the mood to walk us with those soldiers and get a feel for them. So, every artist must be "true" but they must be willing to break new ground in order to bridge themselves artistically. This CD is that bridge - an unstable one - but a bridge none-the-less. If you like Young, or would like to learn more about his artistic life-span, then this CD is a valid buy. For the rest of you, download a few tracks for .99 if you're skeptical and make your decision on what you hear.

Very under rated album
Neil Young's "Life" album is by far the best album he recorded on Geffen Records. This CD is out of print, but well worth it if you buy it from a seller. It is classic Neil Young with his band Crazy Horse. There is no hit single on here, but for all Neil Young fans this one is a must!
