Streets of New York

The photos included in this book are great and capture some of the awe and grittiness of New York City well. I especially like the photographers’ perspective through quotes. That said, the back of the book says that NYC “boasts tremendous diversity” but the book relegates the most diverse borough in NYC (and the world!), Queens, to only about three photos. Poor Staten Island got 0 photos, unless you count a shot of the ferry with the city in the background but with no sign of Staten Island itself. But somehow, the publishers went out of their way to include what felt like 5+ photos of the Occulus and a photo taken in Jersey.As a born and raised New Yorker, this disappointed me and I cannot say that this book is fully representative of NYC as a whole. Although I have to add that I am delighted the Bronx had considerable space, since people tend to forget about the Bronx or treat it like it’s not a worthy borough. Either way, they should rename the book “The Streets of Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn and The Occulus” since those are the only places that seem to matter to the photographers and publisher.Also there’s a typo: They labeled 8th Street station as Greenwich Village in Manhattan when the shot of the station is in Brooklyn. They’d know that if they really knew NYC and bothered to look at their own photo :)

I love NYC so this book is wonderful addition for me. Great aerial shots/street scenes giving a different view of the big apple.
