Yes, I installed these (front and rear) on my 2001 Nissan Frontier SE Crew Cab 4x4. The mono-max is heavy enough for this truck and the ride feels solid. I previously had Monroe shocks, they kept leaking and were too soft. You will not be able to hand compress these, for the rears I used a ratchet strap during install.The fronts I compressed with a small piece of hardwood leveraged against the frame.

Is this for a pair or just a single shock and do they fit a 1987 Nissan 4x4?

There single shocks, they don't come in pairs. I but them for a 2004 Nissan Xterra 4x4
