Armadillos & Old Lace Mass Market Paperback – August 1, 1995

This is probably the 5th Kinky Friedman novel I have read, but since they have been in no particular order perhaps another one took us to the Texas Hill Country and I wasn't aware of it. For me, it was a breakaway, venue-wise and having been to all of the towns and places he describes made it especially fun. I also detect a gentler, perhaps even spiritual undertone in this novel that I have not noticed in the others I enjoyed previously. Naturally, it was a guffaw a minute as the story unfolds. It contains enough plot points to keep one turning the page. And as much as I hate cigar smoke and almost gag thinking of how discolored both his and his character's teeth must be, I grieved when the story drew to a close.

Very funny and tongue in cheek. It is my favorite Kinky Friedman book so far. After reading several of his paper back mysteries, this one is still my favorite, although they do tend to become formulaic. It is witty, a little dirty, with a twist ending. It is a good "dime store novel." Well worth the read.

Some of Kinky's books are much like one another, but in this one his main character (is it really him?), travels to Texas. This new setting lets this adventure stand out from the others. It is as well-written as we've come to expect, with everything coming together at the end in an unpredictable conclusion that, in retrospect, was being carefully set up throughout the novel.

Kinky visits Texas and his family ranch sentimental with out saccharine a page turner! Go for it! You willSmile.

Fantastic book, loved every page, i am a massive Fan of all Kinky's books and this one was amazing.Descriptions of the Echo Ranch made me want to move there, it sounds idyllic and beautiful.

All of Kinky Friedman's tales are hilarious, down to earth, thrilling..A joy to read!

Fun Read! Great wit and fun story..

Having been at Echo Hill Ranch for, this book was more vivid to me than those set on Vandam St.Always good for a chuckle and provoking thoughts, Kinky's books are far more than just mysteries.

Not many authors can make me laugh out loud the way Kinky does. A rare departure from the usual (New York) suspects but some great new Texas characters
