Hello San Diego! Hello jaded Los Angeles! Tonight is Pumpkins night and it will be the best night of your lives!
What we have here, are two knockout radio broadcasts from 1993, as performed by the coolest band on the planet - with the coolest name too - SMASHING PUMPKINS!The first of these gigs, witnessed by a delirious San Diego audience, is a total ear bleeding onslaught of mind - pummeling Jimmy Chamberlin drums, Corgan/Iha "dual to the death" feedback guitar, Throb - Throb - throbbing D'arcy bass..."Oh how we miss you D'arcy," and Billy Corgan's distinctive nasal screams, setting the venue on fire with the hottest of hot and loudest of loud tracks, mainly from the stunning July '93 release 'Siamese Dream'.Two more blinding Pumpkins classics are added to the fray, a storming version of 'Drown', and a killer Gish favourite 'Bury Me' - and no doubt, that concert is still ringing in the very ears of those who attended. The second show - in LA, is a slightly more laid back affair - if that's possible for the Pumpkins? - because even during low key acoustic affairs, Billy's voice is still capable of splitting the atom - and only the Lord knows how his vocal chords cope? When the band are formally introduced, the audience go ballistic, I think they can sense they're in for a special night, like they're about to be as one with something almighty...something life - affirming, thus the extreme levels of adulation and almost blind devotion, where Billy and Co, including - who I assume, is the brilliant Eric Remschneider on electric violin, do not disappoint, playing yet more dreamy siameseness. And seeing as it was coming up to Christmas, you have to admire Billy's charitable comments, showing, within all the rock, pomp and circumstance, he really had a heart...still has - I hope?If that wasn't jaw dropping enough, Billy shows he has a definite sense of humour and Christmas spirit too, with a brilliant audience accompanied - and deliberately off key rendition of:"Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, had a very shiny nose - and if you ever saw him"...sorry, I was singing along too.It finishes, with another: "Oh Billy, you can be so sarcastic sometimes!" - moment, when he suggests 'Hummer' should be grunge tuned - and as the final chord of that final stunner of a song brought this epic gig to an end, it was so obvious, that those who were fortunate to attend, had just received the best early Christmas present - ever!

No CD case
It came in a wallet rather than a CD case. Thats the only reason I gave it a 3 star. The CD itself was ok and of course the album is good.
