An excellent and highly practical compendium of alphabets for calligraphy, with pen/ brush strokes clearly set out, and worthwhile notes on the history of each example. The book has a sturdy cover for regular use and a spiral binding to lie flat

A lovely little book. Full of interesting calligraphy styles to try, with picture examples of the whole alphabet in each style, plus tips about equipment and technique. I bought it purely for the information but am pleasantly surprised by what an attractive volume it is, and the spiral binding makes it easy to leave on one page flat and without damaging the spine, which is thoughtful attention to detail. I'll get lots of joy out of this book.

I have looked at lots of books on calligraphy over the years, but this is actually the first one I've bought. It has a wide spectrum of different styles of fonts which covers so many of the techniques one needs to become a decent calligrapher. I'm not sure I have it in me, but I know a good book when I see one, and this is it. Not only has it got the variety to rival any other volume on the subject I have seen, but it is so orderly and neatly laid out it is a joy just to leaf through. Finding something is easy and getting inspiration is almost inevitable – although sometimes when I feel inspired by books, I get ideas that are totally unrelated to the subject of the book I am looking at. For anyone at almost any level from complete beginner to intermediate, this is the book I'd recommend getting. It takes you on a fantastic journey through centuries of decorative type, but without overwhelming you.

I love everything about this little book. The detail, the amount of alphabets, the binding. The only thing I wish there was a bit more of is warm ups. It very lightly touches on warm up, but having done lots of reading it seems many caligraphers do a fair amount of warm up before writing and so I would like to have seen a bit more on that.

I bought this after doing a lot of research on calligraphy books. This has one hundred alphabets in both capitals and lower cases. There is a good introduction and explanation albeit short. You will need to trace or photocopy the pages and there is no practice pages with it. I am very happy to have so many alphabets to practice and a smidge disappointed it has not as much explanation as I would like but.... don’t let that put you off as that is a personal preference. There is adequate explanation and information for beginners and intermediates. I have given it 5 stars as it is exactly what it said it was ...100 alphabets which is very helpful. It is my own personal preference which is that of wanting to have my cake and eat it that makes it not exactly perfect.

This was a brilliant guide for someone who was just starting out, easy to understand. I bout it as a present for my mum and she loved it.

Excellent. Easy to understand.

Got this for daughter (mid-20s) who is flirting with calligraphy. I used to do it in high school and pretty much forgot everything and was not helpful to her. Sooooo, got her this book. Man, it's awesome. So many styles, with full alphabets. Hints. Tips. Techniques. Was a great purchase. Hope this helps ya figure out which calligraphy book is for you. Gli argomenti trattati sono chiari e semplici, ci sono circa un centinaio di stili calligrafici da cui imparare o prendere spunto, per i quali l'autore fornisce cenni storici, varianti stilistiche e indicazioni più che esaustivi sulla formazione dei tratti.
