Large Activity Rock for Hiding and Basking at a Great Value
My Usage & Practicality Very nice product. It has large openings, seems to maintain warmth well, and feels thick and bold in any enclosure, so it’s suitable for larger reptiles and fish. It’s a great value because it is easy to set up in a tank, and you can use it as the main hiding and climbing spot instead of buying multiple smaller decorations. I’m using it for my Panther Crab tank since it needs enough space to hide while molting. Style & Structure At first, I expected it to look very freshwater-styled, but you can definitely make a saltwater look with the right coral decorations. I did not notice any smell. Some edges are not fully rounded and might need a little filing, but it is not too bad. Also, rinse and check it carefully when it arrives. Mine had small pieces of packing foam stuck inside from shipping. One concern is that if it is not secured in the substrate, it might rock slightly. Overall, it looks great and works well in medium to large enclosures.

Surpassed expectations, would buy again.
Was a little worried reading reviews about other resin decor and personal experience, but this product did not have any sharp edges. It did not have any sharp protruding points either, so no extra sanding down of sharp edges was needed. A surprisingly well-made product, perfect for my semi-aquatic turtle (his shell is about 3.5 inches long). He loves it. It was well packaged/secured with styrofoam inserts, so it arrived in perfect condition. It is visually nice and fairly hefty as well. My turtle loves to make a mess and rearrange things in his tank, so the weight of the decor is important too.

Smaller than it looks
I got this for my bearded dragon. It's a good item and does it's job, but it's definitely on the small side. My beardie is a baby, so this fits him perfectly for now. Outside of size, the other issues is a technicality: I have a 4x2x2 enclosure, so this isn't tall enough to maximize an ideal basking temp. Outside of that, it's great because little buddy uses it daily.

Beautiful basking rock but sharp edges that can be easily fixed...
This was a really nice addition for our baby beardie's tank. It is beautiful and the flat basking portion of the rock is large enough for him now and when he is a juvenile but I do worry it won't be large enough for when he is a full-grown adult but we will see if he still wants to lay across it when he is big. I feel the same way about underneath the rock...he hides in there now and loves it but as an adult he will not fit. I may still keep it in there when he's an adult simply because it is so pretty though! The only problem (and why I gave it 4 stars) is the sharp edges when you first get it. Luckily, I had already read a ton of reviews on a lot of different rocks from several companies before making my decision and this was a common complaint across the board so it did not dissuade me from purchasing this from Penn-Plax. I did have to take 20 minutes to thoroughly feel the rock and file down with a nail file all the sharp edges so they wouldn't cut our beardie's tummy (be sure to feel underneath too because there were a lot under there). It did cause white spots on the rock (as you can see in pic #4 with our beardie in it) but it doesn't take away from the rock...if anything, it makes it look even more rustic so it didn't bother me at all. Happy with this purchase overall.

This has ruined my turtles.... in a good way
I have 2 xlarge caves and both have been great. I use one for my box turtles and one for a crested gecko. I also had a smaller one for my box turtles when i first got them. I dropped it trying to clean the enclouse and it broke. I dropped it from a good height onto a concrete floor. Nothing breakable has ever survived a fall to this floor. After it broke my box turtles got mad and stayed mad for 2 months until I got the xl one. My box turtles are about 3 years Old are finally out growing the xl cave at about 4 inches, but they have loved it. Since I bought it they've lived under it full time. It's home cave out of three hiding spots. The other I bought for my red eared slider. He ended up being too big at 4 inches for it. But my crested gecko fits it perfect. She's still small but it'll be the perfect thing for her to grow with and she will be able to keep it as an adult. The pics of my gecko are of her hospital tank when I brought her home. It's a 10 gallon. This is a good hide. It's sturdy and not too heavy and is a decent size for smaller reptiles. I did inspect both when i got them. Since i saw about the edges being sharp i was worried. The edges on both didnt seem bad. My only problem now is needing a bigger one for some very spoiled turtles.

Is it worth it? Honest review of PENN-PLAX Reptology shale scape rock.
Is it worth it? Honest review of PENN-PLAX Reptology shale scape rock. This rock has held up great over the years for my dragon, looks great, soft for him to sit on and provides him privacy if needed.

Not the best
Sharp plastic edges you will need to sand down so be prepared to prep this before offering to your pet. Hid is very shallow so not much room al all. Should be considered a medium size. Not large at all.

My Leopard Gecko loves it
I can now see my little leopard gecko when she hides under this. Ziggy also loves to sit on top of this at nighttime and survey her vivarium before she goes off hunting for food.

Muy atractiva
Lo compré ya hace unos meses pero ha sido un excelente producto, a mi tortuga le fascinaba tomar el sol, tristemente mi tortuga ya creció y no cabe 😅 pero excelente producto para tortugas pequeñas

Worth it
Purchased this for my yabbie. Was a bit hesitant as I’ve purchased other hides and they’ve turned out smaller than stated but this item is exactly as it says! Couldn’t be happier

Awesome!!!
Fish love it, gives a place to hide for the fry and we added some real plants. Its just heavy enough, wont float away. Lol. looks great and delivery was fast. Great addition to our tank. Probably need 20 gallon tank minimum. But will fit in smaller. Check your measurements. We use 40 gallon. I recommend.
