All Work And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy: The Masterpiece Of A Well-Known Writer With No Readers...

Warning--there may be some spoilers here, but if you want to save the surprise for when you read it, be careful checking out the "see inside" feature or some major plot points may be revealed.The protagonist, Jack, has an employer who is quite demanding of Jack's time. Work, work, work, it seems to be all the poor man ever does. Not only does his boss exploit Jack's flexibility to be scheduled at pretty much any and all times, but over time you begin to understand, there are no perks for this man. The company provides no toys, no company car, no break room with a pinball machine...he literally gets no play. You would think this would make Jack resentful, or lead him to completely "go postal" on his boss, but no. Instead, the entire second half is pretty boring. I think this book is seriously in need of some fan fiction to re-write the ending. The fact that he doesn't even freak out makes the character quite dull.

Looks exactly like the pages he was typing in the movie!! Simply "all work and no play makes jack a dull boy" in type writer font thousands of times in different patterns on an old-paper shade; not crisp white pages. Exactly what I was hoping for. <3It looks especially real if you take the time to cut the pages from the spine and have only the sheets sitting around. Very nice prop.

I am so happy with this purchase! It is a gift for my husband who is a major movie snob and loves The Shining. I am so excited to give it to him.

This book could have been a contender but alas it's merely ok. A book like this needs to be convincing and with the glossy paper cover/backing, the illusion is completely lost. A cheap, worn-out backing should have been used instead. This simple detail makes a big difference. It would have been cool to just let it stand on a coffee table and see the reaction of people looking at it. But now anyone who sees this will know it's a fake. No complaints about the pages inside though. Very cool. I wished the exterior was as convincing as the interior. Oh well...

After discovering this a year or so ago while searching for memorabilia on Stanley Kubrick and his films I couldn't wait until this was available to buy here in the UK as it was too expensive (hardback) at the time on the site it was for sale on. Having read an interview the author gave (his name is Phil Buehler) on a website around 2009 I understood the authors intentions which unfortunately some of the earlier reviewers must have missed judging by the "is this a joke" and "rip off" comments.New York artist Buehler is a big fan of Stanley Kubrick who loved the film and the book by King and decided to self-publish this book and credit it to Jack Torrance. The phrase "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy" is repeated throughout but is formatted on each page differently. Beuhler decided to stick to type and formatting that could have been created on a typewriter.Buehler's thought process was along the lines of what the rest would have looked like if Jack continued to get crazier and crazier.The book can obviously be viewed in different ways. If you never saw the film or read the book and bought this out of curiosity then you could be forgiven for thinking you had been duped. Others may see it as a work of art but for me, as a massive fan of the film, Kubrick and Nicholson in general, it is a must have and an excellent addition to any Kubrick/Nicholson/Shining fans collection or just perfect to give as a gift to those fans too.

How can people say that Jack Torrance is a mad man? This is an literaly masterpiece!!
