Taken spans five decades and four generations, centering on three families: the Keys, Crawfords, and Clarkes. World War II veteran Russell Keys is plagued by nightmares of his abduction by aliens during the war; the Roswell incident transforms Owen Crawford from ambitious Air Force captain to evil shadow government conspirator; the unhappily married Sally Clarke is impregnated by an alien visitor. As the decades go by, the heirs of each are affected by the machinations of the aliens, culminating with the birth of Allie Keys, who is the final product of the aliens' experimentation and holds the key to their future.

15 Years On & Still Holding Up Well! Thoughtful & Thought Provoking Journey
I watched the mini-series on the Sci-Fi network back in 2002. I ordered my DVD set in 2006 and I've thoroughly enjoyed it every viewing. This isn't so much the action/lasers/explosions kind of science fiction. Mostly in a mystery/journey about how the Keys family, Clarke family and the Crawford family change, interact and evolve (literalyl0 over generations. There are aliens, flying saucers, abductions and "tests and experiments"Taken is more a cerebral kind of science fiction and that's my favorite kind. Lots to think about and make me wonder. It draws me into the lives of all the characters and while there are good-guys and bad-guys they're not black and white. Instead all shades of grey (heh!heh!).A lot of folks have talked about Dakota Fanning's key role. She also provides the narrator's voice. Impressive acting for someone so young. But don't forget all the other actors. The entire cast is quite good and I really liked Matt Frewer as Chet Wakeman.I watched Taken again this week. Seem to pull i out every year or two. It's a story that holds up really well for me and 15 years later is still well worth viewing, especially if you like the more cerebral and progressive kind of science fiction. It should be no surprise I'm giving taken 5 stars. I keep on enjoying it.

Best Sci-Fi close-to-the-truth movie ever!
It is so hard to describe to my friends and family how this mini-series moved me since my father was a Major in the Air Force the same time this happened, and I have talked with a few of his pilot friends who loved this movie and said, "you didn't talk about UFO's or you were grounded" you just reported space junk. Spielberg did the best job yet of making this movie, I will watch it over and over again.

Excellent science fiction movie mini-series that disappeared from television
This excellent science fiction mini-series appeared on TV just once about 15 years ago or so. Then it just disappeared. Kind of like the TV movie, "Pirates of Silicon Valley."I recall this was a decent high budget flick about alien contact directed by Steve Spielberg. Recently realized that I really wanted to view this series again. However, it is not available to rent online anywhere. Found it on Amazon about 3 months ago and have been contemplating the DVD set purchase. About 3 weeks ago the new price dropped by about 50% so I swooped in for a fast purchase. The series is about 14 hours long so I am enjoying watching several hours per week. Good stuff.

I love this miniseries.
I love miniseries because they have beginnings, middles and ends. This series is shelved with my other favorite miniseries which include The Astronauts Wives Club (2015), Band of Brothers (2001), Children of Dune (2003), Comanche Moon (2008), Cowboy Bebop (1998-2001), Deadman's Walk (1996), Dune (2000), Into the West (2005), Jericho (2006-2008), Lonesome Dove (1989), Manhattan (2014-2015), Planetes (2003-2004), Pride and Prejudice (1995), Return to Lonesome Dove (1993), Spartacus: Blood and Sand (2010), Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011), Steins;Gate (2011), Streets of Laredo (1995), and The 10th Kingdom (2000).Most television series don't have good beginnings, middles, AND ends. A few of the series that have broken the mold include Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009), Breaking Bad (2008-2013) and The Tudors (2007-2010). I expect Game of Thrones (2011-2019) will join the short list this year as well.

Good show that’s imaginative
I remember when this series aired. I really loved itback then and had always wanted to see it again since. I didn’t even know it went to dvd until I came across this on Amazon recently. It’s a good UFO adubuction storyline that is quite imaginative and unique that spans the lives of three generations of three families. Two who keep getting taken and one obsessed with hiding and destroying it all going from WWII thru to the “present” and then the future briefly. They covered virtually every iconic UFO event in history, Roswell, the incident in PA, Area 51, you name it. But they gave alternative stories behind them all.The scripting can be a little slow at times but the story arcs are strong and interesting. Would I recommend Spielberg Taken to friends and family? Yes I would. Not only is it a blast from the past, it’s a good watch.

Edited yes, but still worth it.
Yes it's edited; nothing is perfect and people tend to ruin everything they touch but this is still a very interesting series.Recommended. The discs run perfectly, no problemOne thing though and I hope you trust me on this; when the little kid starts yakking her dopey "narrative," hit mute. She's annoying as hell and counterproductive to the script and storyline. I'm serious. Not as obnoxious as in "War of the Worlds," but close.Other than that, as I said, recommended. It's beautifully photographed and the sets are wonderful. "Taken" is a secret treasure.

UFO Chronicles
A very long series tracking from the UFO incident in AZ to the present. Very well done and seemingly no expense was spared although well known/high price actors were mostly left out. Instead this series features very good to excellent lesser known actors, some of whom have now become more recognized character actors and stage performers. The series strongly concentrates on character development with good fictional storylines, side stories that feed into the bigger picture, and reasonably good special effects. The end is very poignant and well done in closing the series. If you are a UFO buff then this is a must.

Interesting !!!
Since completely ignoring anyone's else's contribution on D-Day in saving Private Ryan, Spielberg dropped way down in my personal opinion. From such a gifted director this omission remains, to this day, almost unforgivable.Having said all that TAKEN is a good attempt to address what may become a serious issue in the next few years. That 'asylum seekers' {Aliens} from other planets have an interest in us. My only problem with TAKEN was the bewildering change of characters from generation to generation on each disc. Though the acting in all cases is superb, it really got confusing trying to work out who was related who. To give just one example. I'm still not sure who the father of the Dakota Fanning character was related to. Maybe the 'crafty' Spielberg is inviting me to watch it all again from the beginning. Which I will, but not yet.

Steven Spielberg TV Series
Not to be confused with the Liam Neeson films of the same name, Taken is a 10 part series originally shown on the Sci Fi channel about extra terrestrial events on earth, and it's effect on several generations of three particular families. 1 the US Army family trying to keep everything under wraps, while the other 2 families are involved via contact with alien life. The whole series is narrated by Dakota Fanning when she was about 10 years old. An engrossing 10 hours of entertainment. This particular DVD version is possibly Dutch, and only has Dutch or French cover notes, but the discs have titles in English, and can be played in the original English language, as well as French, and with Dutch subtitles. There is an extra (6th) "extra's" disc, which I haven't looked at yet.

Taken, the Ultimate UFO TV Series
I have just finished watching, over ten days, the complete box set of Taken, Spielberg’s masterly UFO TV series, even though I bought it two years ago. What an epic of cinematic perfection! The series is on five discs with two episodes on each, with the sixth disc covering the making of the series, which I did not bother watching. The design and manufacture of the concertina box unit holding the six discs and its outer sleeve is a work of art in itself, and shows the genealogy with portraits of the abducted family members and supporting players over five decades. The teamwork involved in the production of the box set deserves high praise, something seldom mentioned, let alone applauded. The film series is gripping, heart wrenching and infuriating with the machinations of the self-seeking investigators, the CIA and notorious aggression of the U.S. military. And oh boy, they were left with egg on their face. The final episode was a perfect ending. I will look forward to watching this series again in the future.

ENJOYABLY PROVOCATIVE
An ambitious television series (ten feature length episodes) covering fifty years of alleged abductions by aliens. Considerable doubts are cast on what really happened at Roswell in 1947. "Weather Balloon" indeed!Focus is mainly on three families. Two have partial alien inheritance, an eventual mating to produce awesome results. Also around for ever to thwart are three generations of paranoid Crawfords - they hotly denying the very idea of aliens and abductees, whilst secretly tracking them down for often fatal experiments. The box set was watched over three successive evenings - a good way to see it, all the better to keep track of cast changes as the youngest characters grow older. (Be advised that at times developments confuse.)Everything greatly entertains, not always for the right reasons. Critics have a point with claims of certain aspects unconvincing and simplistic - especially the attitude of top military, that eventual stand-off somewhat ridiculous. The Crawfords themselves are hard to believe, especially Mary who emerges as a cross between The Wicked Witch of the West and Cruella De Vil.Despite reservations, there is much to please. Dakota Fanning is visually ideal as little Allie, who emerges as the key to everything - movingly vulnerable despite her great powers. (Vocally the actress may slightly disappoint, especially with her voice-overs in each episode.) Amongst special pleasures is Matt Frewer as wily Chet, he unashamedly stealing almost every scene he is in.Six discs. The last one comprises a 40+ minute bonus, Steven Spielberg describing how his brainchild came to be screened. Ten different directors were carefully chosen. Staggeringly only one man, Les Bohem, wrote the scripts.Perhaps some special effects now seem a little dated compared with more recent offerings. Here, though, is a great series many will enjoy - most almost certainly to emerge convinced of a Roswell cover-up.Recommended.

Good story - bad disc
The DVD is a good story - hence why I bought it. However the 5th disc on this box set has been "burned" incorrectly and wasn't the final disc to the story, although it was labelled that way; it was a repeat of the first disc - disappointing, however I have seen the series before so will now "download" the last episodes. The product did arrive as stated and was quickly delivered though - so everything else apart from the repeated disc was ok.
