It’s just semantics. Once there are 5 cards in a row, if you play the 6th card in that row, you take the whole row. So you could view it as taking 5 cards, as in the five cards already played on the row or as taking 6 cards, as in taking the 5 cards in the row as well as the one you would have to play to make 6 in the row.
