Perfect as a small gift
This is way better than a birthday card and not much more expensive at ~$10. There is simple information on one side and blank scratch pages on the other with a surprise color underneath (you don't know if it will be rainbow or glow in the dark etc until you start - spoiler - the sun page is shiny gold, the solar system page is shiny blue). You can copy the simple illustrations provided or draw whatever you like. The book is very sturdy and holds the pencil so you can draw wherever you are. I agree there is a little bit of dust, but nowhere near as much as I expected. I think it is perfect for a child who can read and enjoys drawing rather than scribbling. I'm going to get more to have on hand as gifts.

she wasnt disappointed at all
My 7- year old daughter really wanted this book and when we got it, she wasnt disappointed at all! We lost the "pencil" immediately, so I cut down an extra dowel and stuck it in the pencil sharpener to make her a new one. There are lots and lots of activities to do in here and I have to admit that it was fun to watch her play with it

Disappointed but could just be my child
This is a great Solar System tool. However my child was disappointed the scratch pages were blank without any direction or stencils to trace. Also some other scratch pages have a rainbow pattern similar to what is shown on the cover. These pages do not. My child was disappointed because of this.

Reaching For The Stars
As a gift this solar system scratch and sketch book was to encourage the imagination of curiosity of young minds who look to the stars andthe planets as something not beyond their reach. The activity book allows to go back time after time to further your knowledge and bringabout a desire to go further in seeking out answers or maybe going to the New York Planetarium to enjoy a real life experience

Quality item
Looked more kid friendly than it was. It is aimed towards older kids since it is free hand drawing.

Excellent for imagination and learning!
My 7 year old got the Ancient Egypt version of this book. He loves it and seeks it out on his own to occupy his time. When it was time to buy a birthday present for his friend turning 8 he suggested this book. His friend loved it and sat right down while opening presents to read and use it. His mom sent me a picture of him on the floor surrounded by legos and nerf toys working through the book. It's a great gift, a good book for travel, and a fun way to for your child to be creative and enjoy a book!

Depends on the child.
I bought the Solar System scratch and sketch for the 6 yo and the fairies scratch and sketch for the 4 yo. Unfortunately, I didn't check the date it was published (2006) before I bought it, so some of the information in the Solar System book was out of date (i.e. Pluto is a planet). We also couldn't get the glow-in-the-dark scratch out pages to actually glow in the dark. That might have been "user error," but I couldn't figure it out. The 6 yo became bored with his book very quickly, but the 4 yo (who is very artistic and creative) loved her book. When I was a child, we used to make our own scratch and sketch pages using crayons, so these books were a nice bit of nostalgia for me.

Really cool!
Bought this for my 8 year old son’s Easter basket. It’s awesome! The quality is great and he loves to scratch away at it. It does make quite a bit of dust, but it’s a cool concept, so I don’t mind.

Excellent colours and great gift
This was a present for my Grandson and he was delighted. On the left-hand page there is a solar system/space related picture with text explaining it. On the right-hand page there is a blank page with black covering. When you use the supplied wooden pencil, it removes the black top layer to reveal stunning metallic colours.Recommended!

Disappointing
Just blank pages for the scratch - had expected there to be an outline on the black for scratching off. My son found this to daunting and was extremely disappointed as wasn't what it looked like from the cover at all or like most similar items on the market. Real shame - would have been a great present if it actually delivered what it promises

Faulty ?
All the pages were blank? Nothing to colour in. I got my daughter a different one and every page was colour in. Is mine faulty? Please contact me

Not what the pictures show!!
I brought this book for my 9 year old son and he was really disappointed as the templates were not there for him to etch over!!! It’s literally black sheets by each solar picture. This book I must stress is for their OWN drawings not as the pictures portray. Whereas my daughter got the scratch and sketch Extreme Art acitivity book trace along which is perfect!!! Thankfully she is prepared to share 😁
