How to use
Ok, so I haven't taken my shelf it is this week, but I think I figured out the best way to use it. This book is a great resource! I advise doing the questions in each section then going back over the sections that are relevant to the questions you missed. It is way too much to read straight if your rotation is 5-6 weeks, but I def. think it covers enough that it is worth the buy!

GOLD STANDARD FOR SHELF PREP
Comprehensive and concise book that is perfect for shelf prep. I impressed my attendings constantly on Peds from the stuff I learned from this. I scored the highest I’ve ever scored of a shelf using this book. I wish only that brs would have more books for our clerkships!

Frustratingly imperfect but still very useful
Really good book. Probably why I passed my pediatrics rotation in medical school. However, it uses WAYYYY too many abbreviations. Sometimes I’d be reading and then see an abbreviation that I had no idea about and I’d have to go back several pages even to find where they mentioned the original meaning of it. It became a hugely frustrating exercise. Sometimes they didn’t even explain the abbreviation originally and it was somehow implied that the reader should know it, even if it is unheard of.Some of the organization is weird, too. Like there is an end of chapter practice question where the answer is to give a systemic course of steroids for an asthma exacerbation, but it’s not on the algorithm page for asthma. Instead, it’s at the end of a written section on a totally different part of the chapter.

Everything you'll need for a peds text as a med student
If you plan to buy this book, plan to actually use it. its about 600pgs.Divide the most immediately relevant chapters up over the amount of time you have. I didn't get through all of it but I did use most of it. Loved it though.

Surprisingly comprehensive for its size.
I've got the 2nd edition, and I love it. It's as close as you can get to a reference book while being in the 500-page range. The book is dense with information, but the bullet-point format and tables help keep it organized. I'll definitely be returning to this book again and again.

Would've been 5 stars if I had an e-book code
This book is almost perfect. Great pictures, excellent diagrams, effortless to read and follow. It is probably the best resource you can buy for Peds as a medical student. The only downside (huge downside IMO) is not having access to an electronic version of this book.

The reason I got Honors
This is hands down the best book for the Pediatrics clerkship. It had all of the information that I needed to know for the shelf, and I was extremely happy with my score! It is very easy to read. I recommend this book to all of my classmates.
