How do you get the backing loose?? I have tried every side edge, crinkled it. etc. and the backing will not separate???

I usually poke the backing with my weeder tool to lift off the backing

This is NOT smart vinyl. You will need a mat

Does this product allow light transfer through?

Have you used vinyl before? Unless it's clear then it's not going to transfer light through. That being said if there is a bright light or even bright sun behind it you will see some light but it's not a light blocker.
