Its a small size magnetic chess board. The magnet is slightly on the weaker side. Overall it i a OK chess, nothing special

Pretty nice set
This set is pretty good for the money. The two halves align well, which means that the clasp closes easily, the hinges are aligned, and the playing squares are aligned when the case/board is opened. It lays flat and I don't have any of the issues with the interior felt that other reviewers wrote about.Set came complete (all pieces) and without any damage to the corners or playing field. All of the pieces (except one) are magnetized and can hold their position even when (slowly) folding the case closed. They will hold on at 90 degrees. The one that doesn't is the black queen. There is a magnet in the base, but it seems like the hole for the magnet is too deep and the magnet is recessed in about 1/2 millimeter. This extra depth away from the magnetic surface is enough so that the piece doesn't have any "sticking" power. I may peel the felt off and try to fix, but my guess is that the magnet is glued into the hole and it may not easy to rectify. The bad construction of the queen is enough to take off a 1/2 star.

Perfect travel set except no travel case
When traveling, my son (then 7) used this set every day for 3 months to play chess in the park, and it continues to be his favorite study board. The pieces are large enough to comfortably distinguish, the space between them enough to keep them from accidentally clinging to each other (a big problem with some of the smaller sets), and the magnets strong enough to keep the pieces on the board. (Not enough to turn it upside down, but enough that a knock won't ruin your game). The pieces and board themselves are actually quite beautiful in a simple, clear, and old-world way (Staunton, I think). Really, this is the PERFECT travel set but for one thing: no carrying case. Given the board is on the OUTSIDE of the case, it is prone to getting damaged without protection when being ported. And given it is being sold as a PORTABLE set, it should have something to protect it when ported. We've been using the original cardboard box and a ziplock, which lacks the classiness of this otherwise lovely, wooden, hand-carved, "no child labor" chess board. It is still hands-down the best travel set we've seen.

The Sweetheart of Magnetic Travel Chess Sets
This is the chess set I have been looking for. Had to buy two others before finding this one. I do not like the Knight in this set but everything else is perfect. If you are looking for a decent and manageable magnetic travel set this has to be one of them. I have spent hours looking and looking and now I have the nearly perfect set. The King is 1 7/8 inches tall, and pawns are 1 inch tall. The magnets could be a touch stronger, but I can hold the board at a 90 degree angle and the pieces remain on the board. What is missing and would be nice are the alphanumeric markings. I am so pleased with this set except for the Knight. I cannot recommend it enough. There are other sets better but you will be paying double the price and more, so for economy, this one is it.

Nice looking board and set...
I am always going to be comparing travel sets to the ones that came from Drueke that had either a box or plastic shell for the board and high quality pieces that could stay in position while closed up and traveling.I purchase travel sets as gifts for my students. This model is a nice set and does the job. I don't like the storage and fold of the board as that means setting up a position you may be studying again. The pieces are pretty good and the magnets hold up well.I am just spoiled with the Dreuke magnetic travel sets...

For the price, you couldn't ask for a better analysis set
Really a lovely little set for the price. It's perfectly sized to sit down with a book and read through games at your table. Other reviewers didn't like its weakly magnetized pieces, and this is fair and absolutely true, but I wouldn't exactly call this an airline set to begin with. Again, if you like chess analysis, this is perfect. The pieces themselves are a very bare bones Staunton pattern. Not much in the way of ornament here compared t the board, which is rather lovely looking for such a cheap thing. At any rate, I personally got out my pin vice and couldn't resist drilling in some eye holes for the knights. There are some chips here and there. The wood is not particularly durable and the pieces are very, very light in weight. If you take care of the set, however, this is not an issue. The actual board is again really quite nice, although I find the hasp distracting, so if you're actually playing against someone with this set, subtly position it so that thing is facing them. Then blow smoke in their face a lot. Sun at your back, kick them under the table "by accident" when they''re in a deep think, etc. You know the drill.Interestingly, a sticker came on the box that indicates this is a set made in Poland and without child labor. That's actually pretty reassuring to a guy like me, but it's unfortunate such a sticker even has to exist. Cruel world out there.

Not as reat as I'd hoped
My rationale for getting this was that it was magnetized and stored the pieces within. It was smaller than I expected, but that's my fault: the description clearly stated the size accurately. It's okay for the price, but I found the handiwork to be a little sub-par; the right-most squares are more rectangles than squares, as if they weren't measured out correctly. I got this for my 6 year old son, who likes it. But it's smallness is awkward for my adult-sized hands.I also seem to have a mental problem with the light brown vs dark brown colors, as opposed to the black/white board and pieces we usually use. I often get confused and make stupid mistakes because I've gotten confused by the colors. Probably just a personal problem, though. If I had it to do over, I would probably pay twice as much for a larger set that is black and white.

Nice looking board and set pieces
The board and set pieces are wood, are finished reasonably well and are very nice looking. The magnets are plenty strong enough to hold the pieces in place against jostling that might occur as you move the set in an upright / horizontal position from one place in the room to another. My only disappointment is how the two interior compartments are done. The inside compartments are lined with cheap-looking & cheap feeling thin molded plastic trays that have a very thin layer of flocking dust adhered to them. I removed the plastic trays and glued-in felt as a replacement and am happy with the look and feel.

My cat can't steal the pieces because of the magnetic pieces!!
This little chess set was just what I wanted. The size is perfect easy to store all the pieces inside when not in use and store away without taking up much room. I love that the pieces are magnetized so that they don't fall off the board when in use. Cute little set for travel or to just keep sitting out for decoration.

As shown in pictures
This set arrived on time and as described. The pictures are accurate, although in natural light the "black" pieces are redder than I thought they'd be. As others have suggested, the magnets are not strong enough that you could, say, turn it upside down or shake it violently, but they ought to be more than sufficient in the back seat of a car on a bumpy road. There was a little bit of a smell, but not strong or overwhelming, and airing it out a little should take care of it. I haven't played on it yet, but so far no problems with anything coming unglued. It all seems to be well attached.
