The Homeowner's DIY Guide to Electrical Wiring

Very handy to have around the house.

Words are great...and this guy loves them. Lots of description, sometimes overly flowery (definitely written by and electrician trying to be a writer and not a writer trying to be an electrician). However at the end of the day a simple picture and quick explication of what is being talked about would be way more helpful. Often times found myself having to look up diagrams elsewhere to understand what is being talked about.

Great book. Just wish the pictures were color. I supplement this book with the Black & Decker Wiring book. Recommend

I had been looking for a book that went beyond the basics and especially one that covered the distribution panel in detail. This one did the trick for me and I recommend it.

I didn't find this a useful manual as someone with little prior electrical experience.Simply put: Too many words, not enough diagrams or pictures. It also isn't written in an engaging or user-friendly style. You might find this book more helpful if you have some experience and want to bring your house up to code. For learning how to do basic things like wire switch, install a fuse, etc, look elsewhere or online.

Where are the pictures and diagrams? How about some how to's? Diagramatic breakdowns? It was good at shortcutting things like where to find something in the NEC. Otherwise I was still relying on the wiki hows, and the step by step instructionables. Definitely got me through the project I had, just thought it would be a better one stop shop.

It's not a bad book, it's just not great - especially for the price. What I've been trying to find is a book which explains in DETAIL a home electrical system, in particular the lightening. While the book's description claimed that this would be in there, a couple of pages is not what I'd call a help. If you want a basic electrical guide then this book is okay, but if you want specifics, drawings, etc, then I'd say look elsewhere. Unfortunately, I've never been able to find a book like this.
