There are two models that look almost identical!
I wanted an aviator style watch to add to my collection but did not want to pay more than £150 for it. Almost setttled on an Orient but after watching a few youtube videos decided upon the Aeromatic 1912 because it looks so similar, it has a japanese movement in it and IT WAS AVAILABLE AT ONLY £69 delivered from Germany!!! I must stress that the model I bought was the A1440 NOT the A1143X which is almost identical and is on Amazon for £89. What's the difference I hear you ask? Well the movement seems to be the same but the crown on mine is not "onion" shaped, more masculine I would say and it is a screw down crown. I don't think the "onion" one is but I'm not absolutely sure about that. I read somewhere that the A1143X has lume on the numbers as well as the hands. Mine only has lume on the hands. The reason I have made these points is to highlight the possibility of someone reading this review before buying and ordering the other model without realizing it. So, back to my watch. I love it! it's a subjective opinion, of course, but it looks as expensive as any of the Pilot's watches costing multiple times more ( to my untrained eye), and I believe we should buy watches to satisfy our own emotions, not others. I will be interested to find out how it performs over the next few months but at £69 it would be more cost effective to re-buy if it failed than to get it repaired! Two more points. Firstly, I was not able to find a youtube video on my particular model, just the A1143X so I suspect mine may be the later model, and secondly, I forgot to mention the finish on my case is brushed whereas the finish on the other model is sandblasted. Hope my rambling has been of interest to someone. Good hunting!I am adding a supplement to this review to add two further observations. They both relate to the hands. One is that the hour and minute hands have been critisized for being too thin on one particular Youtube video I watched (and both models are the same in this respect). The other is that on my model the second hand is black and only discernable under good light. I wear a watch on my left wrist for aesthetic reasons only (as man jewelry) so it is more important to me that I like the way it looks rather than for it's practical, and some may believe, primary purpose! I do, and probably will, always wear a health monitor (fitbit) on my right wrist which lights up when I rotate my wrist, so use that to get accurate time and date information. Please consider the readability of this watch before ordering so that you don't suffer buyers regret. I'm still not!
