I'm about to tell you a whole story, so please read start to finish! <3! I had seen mixed reviews before buying, but needed this equipment to conduct interviews recorded on my Android Smartphone (some old Samsung S7-ish model). Some mentioned this did work on their phones, others mentioned it did not. Overall the ones who did seemed to reference iPhones. First off. THIS DID NOT WORK ON MY ANDROID OUT OF THE BOX. Sorry for the caps, just want to get your attention there. It comes with a TRS to TRRS converter plug, which is necessary to allow this to function with a cell phone. This converter plug did not work on my android. Other, more specific, Android reviews mentioned a more conventional Y splitter. I decided to explore this rabbit hole further (all of this while seriously considering returning the thing, by the way, but trying them on my PC proved they were operational).SKIP HERE IF YOU WANNA AVOID MY STORY!What I came across is that there are two types of TRRS plug, CTIA and OMTP; which is a difference in the positioning of the microphone and ground portions of the connector. I piggy backed off of multiple item descriptions to stumble on this and won't bore you with the details. Anyway, it led me to believe that the cellphone converter jack included with this set uses an OMTP type plug which would be compatible with an iPhone, while my Android accepts CTIA only. I later purchased a splitter plug from Cable Creations that was a CTIA splitter and included a CTIA to OMTP adpater (which they said would be needed for iPhones, by the way!), in order to test this. The splitter was about $7, and I'm sure there are cheaper ones out there. Once I was able to try it, as suspected the CTIA adapter functioned properly, which leads me to believe Android users should either purchase a different splitter/converter plug to enable this to function, OR look for an OMTP to CTIA converter plug. Either way, don't give up android users! Give this a try before you return it and you might be pleasantly surprised! After testing, the lapel microphones worked perfectly fine on my old Samsung S7.I did give this only 3 stars, however, because portions of the advertisement seemed to indicate there should have been a GoPro converter plug included as well, but one did not arrive with my set. This was rather confusing and I could have misunderstood the advertising, which would then mean the advertising was misleading. I don't have a GoPro so this wasn't a huge issue for me, but if it was meant to be with my set, I don't like that I didn't receive it.

This unit's sound quality is superior to the base audio in my GH4's internal audio. For an online video production, podcasting having a dual mono microphone like this makes workflow much easier than the old way of mixers, equalizers and amplifiers. Just plug straight in and get some audio.The wind socks are the best part. I shoot a lot of video outdoors in windy conditions. If you have a recorder that uses a 3.5mm jack, you can use this as your microphone. If you have live guests on your podcast, this will make your audio workflow much easier and less expensive than rigging a mixer, equalizer and multiple microphones the old fashioned way.Q. I'm a YouTuber. How will this help me?A. Collaborations are vital for growing any YouTube channel. Quality sound is just as important. This microphone will greatly reduces workflow because you can sync audio in camera. The old way you'd have to record audio separately. Then you'd have to sync the sound and audio in post production. Recording quality audio in camera greatly eases the workflow.Q. Can I use both microphones on one person?A. Yes! I do this often. This makes for a great backup in case one microphone malfunctions for some reason. It's a great way to get reliable sound even for single person vlog.Q. What's the pick-up/polar pattern?A. It's omni-directional, picks up equally in all directions. This makes it easy if you have to clip the microphone in odd places.Q. Do I have to have a mixer with two inputs?A. No, you don't. All you need is the single input. The microphone comes built with adapters for jacks available on smartphones, cameras and GoPro-type action cameras. It is designed to be used with equipment you have instead of expensive amplifiers mixers and such.Q. Does this microphone need 48 volt phantom power?A. Nope! You don't need phantom power. In fact do not use phantom power as it could damage the microphone.

I bought this mic as a studio Lavalier pair for my YouTube channel. While I also use several other mics depending on the situation, this mic is super convenient for situations like an interview where I'm recording two people and I'm not using shotgun mics. The quality is quite nice, especially for the price. The foam covers are great for indoors, but the included "dead cat/mouse" covers are excellent for outdoor recording.I typically record straight into the camera, but I've also used my phone as a recorder (in airplane mode). In fact, I recorded my own wedding in a similar way. This kit includes the TRRS adaptor so that you can use either device as a recorder.One question I had before I bought was whether it recorded the two mics as separate L/R channels or if they were linked together. They are together in this unit. This could be either good or bad depending on the situation. If you need to work fast, having them combined saves the hassle of duplicating the channel to the other ear later, but the downside is that you can't adjust the levels as separate tracks if you need to. I can see arguments for both ways, but it is just something to be aware of.The carrying case is nice to have and has a belt loop. While I don't see myself putting it on my belt, I see myself using a carabineer and attaching it to my kit bag.A mic like this is very specific and is great for certain jobs. For me, this is perfect for interviews in a controlled studio environment or stationary outdoor shots. The cable is nearly 20ft in total length - plenty for situations where the subjects aren't moving to much. Overall, the sound and build quality are fantastic for the price.

I purchased this a long time ago, and it took a very very long time to arrive.When it did it smelled very bad, like mould on a boat. It was just so musty, and the case it came in was covered in mould spots.The sound quality was not good. I used this for a school project where I needed to do some interviews and found it didn't quite meet expectations. Good for a cheap microphone but if I could go back in time I wouldn't buy.
