A good journal, but could be a bit more sturdy
Let me start out with the biggest complaint that I have:The leather on the binder is simply too soft, and even after a day's moderate usage, I can tell a strain is being put on the paper both for and aft of the binder. I'm thinking of resolving this by making some custom ends out of card stock, and further enforcing them. That said - the product is what it says on the tin: a very high quality, sturdy and expandable journal. The leather binding is nice to the touch, and they include almost enough paper to fill it to capacity.I love the fact they also have varying paper options - I'm currently using the unlined but I do have plans to buy the graph paper. It is a touch awkward if you're intending do do something in here other than use their supplied paper, as it does use non-standard sizes. The fact they sell refills (at not a terrible price for such speciality paper) makes this less of a burden. I personally plan to print out some text on the paper using a custom sized paper and form-feeding it through my printer. In all, if you're looking for a good, stylish journal that you can customize and alter on the fly I really don't think there are many better options on the market.

Initial Impressions
FIRST IMPRESSIONS:The journal arrived yesterday, as such this is a review that encompasses my first impressions of the product.I purchased this particular journal because it's one of the very few that offers an expandable option. Towards those ends, this journal is uniquely constructed with the integration of a 3-ring binder system which makes it easier than ever to add, remove, and replace pages. The included paper is quality in terms of substance and color. Regarding the actual leather that is utilized, it is slighter thinner than I expected and the feel differs significantly from what I expected. This is most evident in the leather strap which wraps around the journal to keep it enclosed. While it's early, this particular strap doesn't feel like it has the tenacity to last for the long haul. That being said, I attribute the overall feel of the leather to the tanning process which utilizes tannins derived from plant matter. This is by no means my favorite treatment system for the leather, but I am looking forward to seeing how it breaks over the coming months.I also ordered the graph paper for an eventual refill. Admittedly I'm disappointed with this particular refill set. My expectation was for a much smaller graphic print which would have helped me with organization and writing on the individual pages. This is a personal preference and I'm sure that the graph paper is perfectly fine for the vast majority of people. But for my personal taste, I was hoping for a graph page that offered closer to 5 squares per inch for a much tighter grid pattern - hopefully that is an option that can be offered in the future.Lastly, I believe that the product could benefit from the addition of a thicker cardboard type backing for writing. For my journal I purchased a 5 Star Pocket Folder, cut it down to size, and hole punched it so that there was a more significant structure backing the paper for journaling.

Real leather, Not cheap, but did I mention REAL.
When I looked at a journal I looked at couple of things. I wanted leather (real leather), and I didn't want it too small or too large. I wanted something a bit smaller overall than a composition notebook. The pages are much smaller than standard composition but they are refillable. I had this product for a while now and I am satisfied. The leather ages nicely from everyday use, and if you have a decent hole puncher refills are a breeze.

buffalo leather?
is this really leather? I don't have a lab to analysis this but after a month sitting out it still smells like vinyl. finally peels back the corner it just looks like cheap vinyl. Paper size seems to not be any standard size. This will end up being a disposable when the paper is used up. sad....

It fits in my backpack just fine. I wasn't sure if the leather was water ...
I write almost daily with this journal! It fits in my backpack just fine. I wasn't sure if the leather was water proofed or not, so I went ahead and water proofed it myself which caused it to darken a little, but nothing more than expected.

Good journal. Big rings!
Really like the journal! I had purchased a different journal from amazon but the rings were not large enough to fit the amount of paper I needed to put in. These rings are bigger than any other journal I could find on amazon. My journal did not smell bed when I removed it form the packaging unlike a previous reviewer. My only issue what there there were some white scuff marks on the front of the journal. It is hard to say if this occurred before or after the shipping process had begun.

Lovely leather journal
This is a very lovely journal. Exactly what I was looking for. I had to return it because it had a defect, but the seller was great about it.

Pretty good
Paper is decent quality, but the lines start right at the top, not after a top margin, as most paper does. Loses one star for that.
