My Cousin Vinny
"My Cousin Vinny" is a classic comedy film released in 1992, directed by Jonathan Lynn and starring Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei. The film is well-regarded for its humorous take on the legal drama genre and its memorable performances. Here’s a brief overview and review of the movie:### Plot SummaryThe story follows Bill Gambini (played by Ralph Macchio) and his friend Stan Rothenstein (played by Mitchell Whitfield), who are traveling through rural Alabama when they are arrested for the murder of a convenience store clerk. Bill’s cousin, Vinny Gambini (Joe Pesci), an inexperienced and loud-mouthed lawyer from New York, comes to their defense. Vinny’s brash personality and lack of experience in courtrooms in the South lead to a series of comedic and tense moments as he attempts to navigate the legal system and prove his cousin’s innocence. His fiancée, Mona Lisa Vito (Marisa Tomei), also plays a crucial role in helping him with the case, despite her unconventional and outspoken nature.### Cast and Performances- **Joe Pesci as Vinny Gambini**: Pesci delivers a standout performance as the eccentric and determined lawyer. His portrayal of Vinny is both comedic and endearing, making him a memorable character in film history.- **Marisa Tomei as Mona Lisa Vito**: Tomei won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mona Lisa. Her performance is witty, charming, and adds depth to the film’s humor.- **Ralph Macchio as Bill Gambini**: Macchio plays the role of the innocent young man caught in a legal nightmare, providing a sympathetic counterpart to Vinny’s outlandish antics.- **Fred Gwynne as Judge Chamberlain Haller**: Gwynne’s performance as the no-nonsense judge adds a layer of gravitas and humor to the film.### Themes and Humor"My Cousin Vinny" blends legal drama with comedy, exploring themes of justice, family, and the clash of cultures. The humor often arises from Vinny’s unconventional methods and his struggle to gain respect in a Southern courtroom. The film also highlights the importance of persistence and the value of local knowledge, with Mona Lisa’s expertise proving crucial to the case’s resolution.### Reception and LegacyThe film was both a critical and commercial success, praised for its sharp wit, strong performances, and engaging storyline. It has since become a beloved classic, often cited for its memorable lines and humorous portrayal of the legal system. Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei’s performances are particularly celebrated, with Tomei’s win for Best Supporting Actress solidifying her status as a standout in the film.### Conclusion"My Cousin Vinny" remains a beloved comedy that effectively combines humor with a compelling legal narrative. Its memorable characters, sharp dialogue, and engaging plot have made it a lasting favorite among audiences. One of the FUNNIEST American movies ever made, hands down
Fair warning: There is more foul language here than in most bars in Upstate New York so if your kids are well educated in American profanity they'll find this quite interesting.Apart from the excess of swearing and cussing this is an absolutely hilarious movie. Joe Pesci played in Home Alone later as one of the crooks, if you've seen that movie and liked it then you'll love this one.Things aren't all that interesting from the start so give it a hot minute and you'll see the chaos unfold.Definitely going to rewatch this monster of a comedy a few times!

UK Import Works Fine in US
I didn't mean to order the UK BD of "My Cousin Vinny", but Amazon has made doing things like that pretty easy these days if you aren't careful. Nevertheless, I decided to see if I'd have an issue or not with my 4K BD player and 4K TV. I'm thankful to say I had no issues playing the BD, and it looked good.Further, since modern 4K BD players all shut off after 20 minutes, I now keep a list of how different discs handle a resume after the BD player shuts down a paused BD. For the UK "My Cousin Vinny", the BD immediately resumed where I left off. Normally, resumes get a prompt. I was fine with this instant resume since that's what would have happened IF the BD player didn't shut itself off.Regardless, if you mistakenly buy the BD with the "15" on the cover, it should work fine on your US 4K BD player.

WHY DID NO ONE TELL ME HOW GOOD THIS IS
Truth be told, I saw this for the first time about 2 years ago, but I never wrote the review. And the headline is the exact feeling you'll get upon completion. I was surprised how hilarious this movie is given the premise. And the acting is phenomenal. You'll wish Marisa Tomei and Joe Pesci would've married IRL from there screen chemistry. You might even google if they dated after. I wouldn't do that, but maybe you will. It wouldn't be that weird. It wouldn't

Accurate re Lawyering
8/5/2024 - I have watched "Vinny" six times, each time I laugh just as hard as during the prior viewing, and I catch some nuance I had missed. The movie is true to the life of a beginning lawyer. When I started out, I too was reprimanded by a judge for not standing when addressing the court. The movie illustrates a criminal proceeding from the time of arrest to the end of a jury trial, including all the phases in between such as preliminary hearing, discovery, pretrial detention, jury selection and jury trial. Marisa Tomei got an Oscar for best supporting actress, but Joe Pesci should also have been awarded an Oscar for best actor. Too bad there is no sequel.Salem, Oregon.
