How to Learn the Alexander Technique: A Manual for Students

Musicians can enjoy performing!
The book ( Alexander technique). Is very good. I really was not familiar with the importance of the technique for all musicians particularly singers. It is well written with an enormous amount of information regarding individual carriage and position of the human skeleton. Also stress is placed on relaxing shoulders and necks so there is a channel through which sound may move effortlessly. Barbara Conable has done a marvelous job presenting drawings of how we should carry ourselves. The book will require dedicated work for an individual because of realizing that the specific freeing of bones and muscles enables us to move from tension to freeing ourselves for musical freedom. Reading this book has made aware that it is possible to sing freely without tension And enjoy the outcome.

A struggle to work with from an academic perspective.
The author's prose is dreadful; sometimes child-like; sometimes condescending; sometimes poorly attempting humor; and often poorly organized. I had this book for a musician-focused Alexander Technique / Body Mapping graduate course. The chapters are organized terribly. It took a significant amount of effort to find specific information on a given topic due to the poorly organized chapters, sections, and the incredible amount of word-vomit one must sift through. The prose attempts to connect to the reader on a personal level (and fails), rather than at an informational level one might expect from an educational reference. This book would have a 2-star rating if it didn't actually contain some decent information once you're able to organize it yourself.

nor am far enough along with AT to evaluate this any better.
She assumes the reader knows more anatomical terms than they might, making comprehension more difficult. I have not finished the book yet, nor am far enough along with AT to evaluate this any better.

This is a wonderful book!
I would recomend this book for people that already has had an introduction to the Alexander Technique. It goes deeper and explains very well the concepts so they can be better understood. However, if you are new in the technique it can be a little technical, so I think it is better for somebody that already has experienced a little bit the technique. The book arrived on time an in perfect conditions!

Great Guide
If you have never heard of the Alexander Technique, you are in the right place. This is a great book that is used in many introduction classes, and will promote the use of the AT. I love this book, and still reference it a lot as I refresh my mind on these well thought out pointers. Great book.

Great book!
This is a great book for anyone who wants to learn more about the Alexander Technique. It's clear, evocative, and allows you to get into the technique yourself. I read it in graduate school and still go back to it for revitalization.

This is a well rcommended book and is very comprehensive. I must admit to finding it difficult to use as it seems to assume that I know a lot about Anatomy. It often refers to "your instructor" and I find it difficult to actually carry out the processes. I do get the impression that a trained instructor is needed and I cant find one locally. In fairness it does contain a lot of information and I feel wiser when I read sections of it also I am rather ancient(born before the War) and it could be that it's not really something I'm capable of doing.

Alexander Technique
Quite honestly I being a total novice found this difficult as not very well illustrated however I feel for someone much more experienced would really benefit. I hope this is not taken badly, it has lots of information. Thank you Patricia

This is a really great book in many ways
This is a really great book in many ways. It's beautifully written - something I rarely encounter in the world of practical books. It's has a number of very useful and wonderfully detailed anatomical illustrations. For where I was in my journey with the Alexander technique this was a really useful purchase. Barbara Conable's clearly expressed ideas about a map of the body are exactly the kind of thinking AT was missing. Recommended to all students of the technique.

One Of The Best Books On The Subject That I have Found
For a used book, my copy arrived in excellent condition. I don't know why this is not still in print, as it offers excellent insights into Body Mapping and its usefulness in learning Alexander's Technique. Excellent
