Such a treat. Reminds me of her debut. So full of heart, great musicianship and feel.
Born for Liberty this one! As we all struggle with current world order, returning to personal messages of longing and love resonates well. One of the better thematic albums of late. With so much emphasis on itune singular, this one commands attention from the opening notes of self exploration through Anthem and Liberte to the extra track remembering those who have left us. Thank you Madi for a great effort. The hard work really shows! Love you always.

Smart stuff!
Always a bit of a musical outsider, Peyroux is again working with producer Larry Klein, having co-written all but two of Anthem’s tracks with several of Anthem’s musicians, including David Baerwald, Patrick Warren, and, again, Klein. Many of the songs, reportedly fueled by the aftermath of the 2016 elections, illuminate the struggles of characters down on their luck or downswept in the changing tides of American norms. Peyroux’s plain-spoken delivery, a potent, polyglot gumbo of jazz, blues, and hard-scrabble news, carries a clear Billie-Holiday influence. Standout tracks are “The Brand New Deal,” Peyroux’s stark assessment of too-big-to-fail, zero-sum greed-games; Leonard Cohen’s “Anthem” of hope, in which the cracks in everything do let the light in; and “Liberté,” Paul Eluard’s poem of freedom, adapted and arranged by Klein and Peyroux, sung in French, and well worth taking the time to translate.

OK album but not what I was expecting.
Album was not that terrific for all the hype. I should have waited until it was out and could have heard some of the music. I've only listened to the whole album once because I just didn't like most of the songs.
