Worm Composter with Free Thermometer, 3-tray, Terracotta

This is much better than I expected than I expected it to be. It was easy to put together in less than 5 minutes. It comes with a brick of coir, two cloths that goes over the top so the worms can't escape, a well made metal thermometer (similar to the metal kinds used when making a roast or turkey) and instructions for caring for worms with great information I didn't know after doing lots of research on composting worms that I didn't find online. Also, this arrived 5 days sooner than expected it came from Oregon to California. In the picture it looks like you just get the worm bin system but if you look at the picture of it with the 2 suggested items where it shows the worm bin system and the accessories that is what you are actually getting. Also, the worm factory trays that you could buy separately fit this as well if you want more trays.Update: I have had this for 3 days and also using another different worm bin for 4 days and new to worm composting. For some reason the worms have not tried to escape from this one while in the other worm bin I have every time I open it there are 2 or 3 worms crawling up trying to escape. Luckily this came with two cloths so I have one on each bin so they can't get out. They both have the exact same bedding I mixed it all at once for both bins. So I guess they prefer this bin.

This does what it was designed to do. I don't overfeed or over water so I don't get much worm juice. Next time, I'll just get a plastic tote and drill the holes. The thermometer didn't work. The coir was nice to have and was enough for one tray--be sure to soak it according to the directions. Definitely place the white sheet below your first tray because the little buggers like to travel underneath the trays. Our worms also kept coming out of the top lid which doesn't seal very well. We had to affix a permanent light to shine on the top to keep them in and we don't use the lid because they just came out from under it. Our bathroom is dark so that might have been part of the problem. I can't see this working very well in a dark closet or basement. I suppose I should try turning off the light to see if the worms stay in the bin. When we first set up all, we had huge barometric swings which could have been part of the problem, too. This is my first time w/a worm bin so it might just have been it took the worms a long time to decorate and make the place feel like home. I wouldn't let them use the internet to order anything either! :)

I've been using this system for the last several months. I started with 1 Lb of red wigglers. I've been very happy with the quality of the castings I've gotten out of this bin. For the fastest break down I suggest either precomposting with a tumbler or grinding up your food waste with a food processor first.There are a hand full of sites that discuss vermicomposting and they provide more information than any of the manufacturers. One thing I've discovered is the replacement bins sold for the worm factory will not fit this bin. They're different enough that they just don't quite fit together.Personally I chose this one because it's less expensive than the worm factory. One difference is this system is made in China and it uses doesn't use the Worm Facotory's worm ladder. Rather, this bin uses a piece of lawn fabric to help keep worms out of the leachate and to let them climb back into the bin.In summary, I'd recommend this bin to anyone looking to compost with worms and without odors.

It is working well! I don't get as much worm juice as advertised, and the compost does not turn over in 3 weeks even in ideal conditions, it takes 5-6 weeks for a tray to be broke down and ready for use as fertilizer. I have kept it indoors as we live in Alaska and it is still freezing at night. We can not smell it at all, unless the compost lid is open.

I live in AZ where it is very hot and dry. I bought this cause I had trouble with the top of my box getting too dry and the bottom soupy. This eliminated those problems. I do not have any smell, but I do watch how much compost material I put in to feed the worms. I did have to tape off many of the air holes due to the dryness in this area.

I gave this to my last July, and since then we've had great success with this product. It's easy to set up with everything included, and we didn't even buy worms - we just pull them out of the garden when we see them. Contrary to our concerns regarding smell, we brought this into our house when the weather started dipping below freezing on a regular basis, and we have not had any issue at all. We are mixing in vegetable matter and other scraps and all is fine. The worms seem happy and healthy in their new home, the whole thing is very low maintenance. We're looking forward to using the compost in the Spring.

It is perfect! I live in a relatively small apartment in the desert so I needed something compact that I could keep inside. This has answered all of my prayers! It fits under my dining room/craft table and so easy to use its crazy that it took me so long to learn about worm composting. I'm fully impressed with this and when we expand our garden and require more worm compost, you better believe that I will be back to purchase more!

This worm composter is very ready to put together, use and its great for my worms. I am newer happy with it. I originally ordered black, but the company called the same day and posted out in green, which I like even better. Very happy with my purchase.
