Great replacement, latch release handle incorrect.
***USE CAUTION WHEN REMOVING OLD LATCH RELEASE HANDLE, YOU MAY NEED IT*** Great instructions included if needed. Good construction and works as it should with one exception. The latch release handle (pops out when you lift slightly/T-Handle) is approximately 1 inch too long. Thankful the old one did not break when removed because it is still being used with the new latch assembly. MK4 in the description should indicate OEM style replacement and match the OEM design drawings. Other than that it is a wonderful grade product, would have 5 stars if parts were correct.

Direct fit
Worked great as a direct fit oem style replacement on my 03 Volkswagen Jetta Gli . Plus for anyone that isn’t mechanically inclined then it comes with a set of instructions as well.

Lock it down!
Fit perfectly on my 03 jetta 1.8T- I did use a little lithium grease once it was installed to loosen it up a little. Quick and easy install * note- you do have to remove and replace the limit switch and the release line when you replace this. It's pretty simple, just have a pair of long needle nose pliers, and a couple of torx drivers handy and it should go smoothly. I reused the black pull latch as the one that came with the latch didn't have the same fit and finish.

OK but not great
I purchased this as a replacement about a year ago. It recently failed, thought I might get another of the same, but decided to go OEM instead. The reasons are as follows: first the metal latch piece was of a grade of metal which caused it to become bent by the force of the loop on the hood closing on it, this made it so that the hood would not close; second, on the 2004 golf there is an electrical wire connector (I am guessing it is a sensor) that connects on to the latch assembly. This part does not have the sensor or the wire, the OEM piece does. At 40 a pop, and with its expected durability (1 year under normal driving conditions) I decided to give this a pass.

Quality product, maybe better than OEM
Apparently the hood latch is really prone to going bad on these cars. My hood would not close all the way. Only the safety patch would grab the hood.Product came very quickly. The part looks great and comes with some instructions.Important to note that you have to re-use your 3 star head bolts

Didn't work
Purchased following a minor fender bender that jammed up stock hood latch and slightly crumpled my hood . Following the purchase of a new hood and this latch, I installed the both and had immediate latch issues. The main problem was the safety catch - when closing the hood, rather than rotating the safety catch and allowing the primary hood latch to engage the hood down into its final locked position, the metal guide on the safety catch simply bent over backwards. After a could of hours of trying to tweak the alignment I gave up on the new hood latch. As my options were getting pretty limited, I resorted back to my slightly damaged original hood latch which actually worked perfectly first time.As far as design is concerned, I would be hard pressed to differentiate the stock latch and this replacement latch. The one thing that was very obvious; however, was the spring tension of the saftety catch of the replacement latch - There was considerably more spring tension on the replacement hood latch satety catch than in the OEM latch. For my car application, this latch simply was a waste of money. But given that I might have had some additional issues with the grill frame from the accident that aren't visually obvious, perhaps the latch would be OK for someone just replacing a worn out latch?
