I would recommend this book to children between the ages of 8-12
I would recommend this book to children between the ages of 8-12. Having said that, I loved the story, (and I am considerably older). The style, setting and beautiful writing drew me in, until I just had to know how it would end. So, don't be put off by the age range. If you liked Skellig by David Almond, then you will love this book. If there are teachers/parents out there who need a story dealing with bereavement in a very unique and enthralling manner, then this is the one.

An intriguing and highly recommended book for children (and adults!)
I'm reading this to my 8 year old son.....wow! I have to say that 4 chapters in and we're hooked! Nice short chapters which are ideal for reading him a bedtime story, yet short enough for him to read in his own.Every chapter has my son questioning what will happen next and wanting us to read more.Great writing and highly recommended for a wide age range

Brilliant read
Beautifully written story with great descriptions of our favourite place on earth - Italy. Loved all the characters human and animal alike.Have read it alone, but will be sharing it with my 7 year old grandson, who I know will equally enjoy it. Would recommend for any child who has had a bereavement. Not scary but mysterious and magical.

Love this book
A delightful book highlighting the plight of animals in shelters woven into a compelling story of Ruby's new life in Tuscany. A page turner which gives a flavour of Italy. I even learnt some Italian. Highly recommend.

Lovely
A book that is both heartwarming and sad. As the owner of a rescued setter inglese myself, this book gives some idea of the problems that homeless dogs have in Italy and the wonderful work that volunteers do. Moreover, it also has a lovely story that adults and older children will enjoy.

Unusual and touching story
The story is set in one of the most magical places on earth - Tuscany. Loved the descriptions of the area and the snippets of Italian! It deals with serious themes: bereavement, animal welfare, growing up and relationships in a realistic but often humorous way.
