Best soapmaking book out there
Now here is a book well worth the money... AND... it was one of the cheapest offered on the topic. This book offered every bit of information that you’re asked to pay top dollar for in every other book. But here, you get so much more! You get more information about what types of ingredients you can use, what each oil is good for, what scents can go with what oil mixtures to achieve certain affects. How and why natural lye soaps are different from commercial bought brands and why your homemade soaps are such much better for you and the environment. It also covers in more detail many different methods, types of soaps, shampoos, liquid soaps, laundry and dish detergents, etc. This book even gives you a website that has an applet that will help you figure out the ingredients you need in extreme detail and give you a full list, the recipe and everything. It’ll break down how much of each ingredient you need to have on hand to do what you’re wanting to do. You simply tell it what types of oils, added other stuff and scents, the process and it figures it all out for you and gives you a list of what to buy. This little applet is well worth the money you have to pay for the more expensive books alone in my opinion. You can be as creative as you want. Want to use only oils you have on hand? Great! Fill in whatever else it needs and it spits the full shopping list and even instructions for making your soap. Tweek it and it adjusts everything for you.

Great book start to finish
This is a complete book for anyone wishing to make and/or sell soap. It starts with basic information and takes you through safety procedures, the different soap making processes, the effects of different oils, and additives. She includes saponification charts, recipes, project ideas and source information. She gives a complete picture of what is involved to start a business and ideas to keep it successful. She also gives information on store brands, possible allergens and equipment needed. This may be the only soap making book you will need. Thank you for the well written, thoroughly informative book!

Wow! Fun Guide to Making Soap!
I have always wanted to learn how to make soap. I haven’t been able to find anything as comprehensive and instructional until now. It was fun to learn about the variety of methods that Amanda McCarthy covers in her book. The guide also provides you with a good science base for soap making, and provides plenty of information about different oils and herbs that you can use to handcraft your own healthy, natural products. The guide really walks you through the process and even provides some wonderful recipes for yummy scented soaps! My favorite recipe is “Caribbean Breezes”. This guide is an absolute steal for the price with all the info you get! (Note: The safety reminders are really important, so follow instructions carefully.)

Nice addition to my collection.
The first 92 pages are a review of the basics of soap making. There are recipe errors, example repeats of the same ingredient with different measurements in the recipe. You're going to need a lye calculator because some of the the math is not added up in the recipes. Positives - there are a lot of recipes. Nice addition to my collection.

Informative
I was curious as to what was entailed to do soap making at home. Working with lye was a stopper for me, but it's pretty good information otherwise. Gave me more appreciation of those who do this at home

Not an accurate book
Call ntained many fear mongering half truths and many soap urban legends. Not a good or accurate book. (There is no such thing as peach essential oil people!) There are better books out there to learn about soapmaking.

No such thing as peach essential oil
This isn't the best book I ever read about soapmaking, but it's definitely not bad. There are a few editing errors (to be expected anymore, really), and I'm bothered by some of the terminology - she has "peach essential oil" listed in her ingredients for one recipe... there is no such thing. Nor is there raspberry. But put aside the recipes, and there is some good information in this book, especially for the price.

Meca for soap making
I am overly excited about this book. McCarthy has out done herself. If you want the A to Z`s for making soap then this is an outstanding choice. Everyone you can think of, ie. oils, recipes, suppliers, laws and ingredients have been provided in this book. I highly recommend this to all looking to make soap for personal use or for a small business.

Don't waste money on it - useless book
I bought this book as it was recommended in the soaping groups. This edition of the book is very poor. It looks like someone printed a PDF version and some of the descriptions didn't really fit into the pages. i.e. the SAP chart is not in line. I assume originally it was in an excel sheet and was copied to word. The oil lines are not corresponding to the NAOH or KOH lines correctly. This should be a very important part of the book especially for beginners like me, but it is just useless. This was a waste of money.

Bubbles and Sud's
Very useful and informative. A good addition to crafty books collection amongst other soap making books. Good for the basic fundamental recipes and other tips. A few more pi s wouldn't have gone amiss like the one on the cover.
