Guerrilla Painter 101.12H 9x12 Hinge Front Guerrilla Box

I love plein air painting but found my French easel just wasn’t working for me. While it held all of my supplies it was just too heavy and took too long to set up. I had been looking for a pochade box for quite a while and finally settled on this one.I did have to make some trade-offs. The box is geared toward 9x12 inch panels. This is not a problem since I usually don’t take anything larger to paint on location. Long handled brushes don’t fit well in the paint brush compartment. Although I was able to get a couple to fit in at an angle. There is nowhere for me to attach my easel brush clip so it’s difficult to work with more than one brush at a time.I really love the compact size of the box and the storage capability. I am able to take several tubes of paint, solvent, medium, brushes and canvas panels in one small box. I try to limit my paints to a basic palette in order to keep the weight down. Having a palette in the box in front of me is a nice feature. I usually tape a piece of palette paper over it to minimize clean up. I really like the fact that I can store my wet panels in the lid. Not having to carry a separate panel carrier was a big selling point for me. The box has a universal tripod mount that allows it to fit most tripods. After much research I chose the Dolica Pro Line tripod and the box fit perfectly on the tripod mount.I have only used my pochade box once and was very happy with it. The tripod was stable and held my Guerrilla box securely. The Guerrilla box and tripod were a lot lighter and easier to carry than my French easel.1/20/21 Update: I’m really happy with the Guerilla box. Over the last two years I have dragged it to plein air events almost every weekend and it’s holding up really well. Although I also have a Sienna pochade box I prefer the Guerilla box for plein air because it’s sturdier and safely stores my wet paintings.

Bulky, heavy and the bottom metallic plate mount scratched my tripod mount after screwing it on.

It works wonders I bought it cause I was going to be traveling for the winter, I packed so much into it I had two pallets, handful of gouache tubes, tape and brushes and three rags. I can definitely see myself using it as my main box when I’m home and transitioning it to just for my oil paint!

The picture on Amazon clearly shows the handle mounted on the front of the box (the long side) like a standard case. What was shipped has the handle mounted on the side, so you will have to carry the box on its end during transport.

Compartment is big enough for almost everything you need on the go. Downside is the weight but the quality and craftsmanship Is excellent.

I’ve wanted a Guerrilla box for years, but after receiving two that had manufacturing defects (a big scratch on the top of one, and a second attempt that had peeling veneer. The quality control for this product seems to be non-existent. Waste of time, looking at the many other options out there these days.

I have thoroughly researched pochade boxes before buying this one(my first box).It's a great box,and I am looking forward to trying it 'Plein Air'.Its lightweight,and great storage etc. However, disappointingly, as it's a birthday gift, it was badly scratched on the outside top and bottom when I received it, and I have had no joy complaining about it,so have decided to overlook it. I am not the first to have this problem,and it's not cheap. Guerilla need to address this problem. It's the only reason I put 4 stars not 5.

Es hat mir nicht gefallen, dass die Box den Ledergriff an der Seite hatte und nicht vorne, also ganz im Gegensatz zum Foto, das gezeigt wurde. Das Produkt war nicht nur ganz anders, sondern eine Lederschnalle zum Schließen der Box war auch schief geschnitten. Auf meine Beschwerde per email hat mir amazon nicht geantwortet. Eine große Enttäuschung.
