Unico Hardcover – January 1, 2015

Unico is probably one of the first children's cartoons I can remember from my childhood. I remember being about 4 or 5 years old and I was given the choice of which movie I wanted to rent at the video store, and I chose "Unico and the Island of Magic." A couple of years later I found the first film "The Fantastic Adventures of Unico." My father recorded them on VHS and I have treasured them over the years. A couple of years ago I was lucky enough to find a DVD that included both films that someone had lovingly tried to restore. The films were not perfect, probably because they were burned from imperfect VHS copies, but I am glad to have them just the same. I am so glad this omnibus collection was released in the US. It is a bit small for the price, but I can honestly say that I would have paid more just for the sentimental value.It is interesting to read these stories and see how they mishmashed quite a few of them together in the movie "The Fantastic Adventures of Unico." The story from the second film, "Unico and the Island of Magic" is not included in this omnibus edition, so it was probably an OAV. I would say that these stories are okay to read to children 6 and up.

I loved the animated movies about Unico and was very interested when I came across this edition of the manga series. The book is compact and easy to read, as well as very well made. The pages have a nice weight and not much gloss at all. The stories within are fun and thoughtful, and the colors are nice and vibrant. The only downside to my book is that the insides of the pages closest to the binding aren't always easily legible. You sometimes have to press the pages down in order to read all the text in some of the boxes closest to the spine. It really doesn't detract from the beauty or material of the book but I thought it'd be worth mentioning in case the publishing company happened to peruse these comments. Overall, an outstanding product that I am very happy I now own. And props to the publisher and their kickstarter donaters for granting people access to this great material!

Even though I have this in Japanese, I have this in English as well. I love Unico, I always have. Seeing and being able to enjoy the story that was the basis of the movies in English is awesome.The stories about passing through dark trouble for happiness of friends even though Unico cannot stay has always been a part of my heart; and I know it inspired me to write stories for myself even when I was a child.

I loved one of the Unico movies a long time ago. Now I have the complete collection. It's a good assorment of stories where Unico helps people. The ending is left open ended, we just don't see Unico's adventures after that story. I hope these will get published again by another publisher a short time in the future. This collection is sometimes hard to find.

I remembered Unico from my childhood in the '80's when the movies were aired on American television, so I was really excited to find out there was a manga. Imagine my astonishment when I discovered how much racism and violence could be contained within the pages of a book with a cute little unicorn on the cover! I do highly recommend this book, it fun reading, but I do not endorse the "for all ages" rating on the back of the dust jacket. I wouldn't give this book to a child younger than 13. If you do give this book to your children, make sure you have discussions about the stories afterward, they may just have a few questions about it!

The layout and coloring is superb. I have an earlier Japanese edition with only the first few pages in color. It is wonderful to be able to read the entire run of UNICO in English and in full color. It is sad that Unico leaves each tale just as he helps others, but that is the nature of his "reincarnations" in this winsome allegory. This is a joy and a treat.

If you are a person who love the movies highly recommend you buy this manga. It's a complete Unico manga in one book , it's in Color! Another plus it reads like a normal comic book so people who don't like reading a comic book backwards can read this one normally. It's great for young kids and adults.

I never grew up with Unico as a kid but when I heard how popular this was to a massive audience, I decided to give it a read myself and I do not regret my purchase.I liked Unico because despite some people taking his power for granted and then using it for their own selfish purposes, he never gives up on them and I really give credit for the color and artwork of the book and the story. The price was worth it as well and it arrived before it's estimated delivery date, good fast service.I recommend Unico to anyone who is a fan of fantasy or manga all together.
