Yes, there are settings in the camera you must change.I don't offhand recall what they are but you'll find them online.It will work with your 5200 It worked with mine.

No, it does not work with the 5100. This is the reply I received from Nikon support: "Thank you for contacting Nikon. The WU-1a is only compatible with the D3200." That reply came to me on 12/31/2012.
