Conflicted.
I don't think I hate the side plot as much as others. I actually enjoy the side plot, but I'm not sure if I enjoy Shun as the protagonist of most of them anymore. I've heard of these side plots before reading and them being tedious, they are actually more enjoyable than I assumed. It's just, Shun as a protagonist has deeply turned into the generic do-all-"good"-blindly type kind of guy. His parts were nice, at first, but it's kind of turned dulled at this point, seeing his growth as a character in previous side plots were great but seeing him in action is, eh. The author does good work explaining the characters and making sense of their motives and how they could change so much as a person (well Hugo needed a bit more work). Though the side plot is really only interesting for the character growth and development aspect, the fight scenes are kind of eh.I've heard in the upcoming volumes there's less side story between our hero and more on our epic spider gal, seems like a good choice to focus on the main story now.Anyways so someone in the top reviews said the change in perspectives makes things confusing. So I've personally read volumes 2-5 in three days, (the series was so addicting I bought the ebooks cause I couldn't wait for the physical print to ship to me.) while I kinda agree with them, this book actually makes sense of things, a lot. It does such a good job at connecting most of the previous loose ends. Now onto the good parts. My god, the scenes with the protagonist were all gold. Truly the best protagonist. And I have to say, this honestly was the most surprising volume for me so far.

The plot thickens, and so does our spider!?
First, let me make clear that this 5-star rating is based purely on the fact that the next (translated) novel is already lined up to release in a few months, because this volume is pretty weak by itself.Which is not to say that there is anything wrong with the novel itself. If you've made it this far in the series, you are intimately familiar with the author's style, and how this story is being presented. This leads to the best and wrong thing about volume 5, which is that it serves as the volume where the two disparate stories finally come together. I will admit to being pleasantly surprised by the turn in characters, and how my own theory on who lovable Kumoko was being turned on its head was highly enjoyable. That being said, I must stress that you are likely better off waiting for the net volume to drop before picking up this one, as very little happens in terms of character development (even though the plot jumps forward, but I won't get into spoilers there) and some questions are left very much open with the cliff-hanger ending. Of course, this novel also answers some of the questions raised in volume 4, and finally gets to talking about the world itself, rather than just the characters we've seen so far.In short: Very enjoyable, but it requires the next installment to have a full sense of what is going on, and how that matters. Pick it up if you think you can stomache the wait.SPOLIERs**: Plus, spider girl finally becomes spider girl, so you have that to look forward to.

Much reveal. So tasty
Without giving things away (and it's hard not to gush about this series), this book finally reveals who our favorite spider girl was in the class roster. The author does a great job in the prior books about keeping things cloudy, leaving you guessing, and/or leading you down paths to obvious (incorrect) conclusions, all while providing an entertaining and interesting story with a decent amount of action.Since I blew through the book in under 3 hours, I may have missed things, so I'm currently re-reading it (after taking a side trip through the latest book in a couple other series). The book seemed shorter on action, and downplayed things that could (would) have been fun side trips, instead it was focused on filling in details on a lot of things from previously, while not giving away so much that you don't want to keep reading. That said, once again I'll frustratedly be counting the days until the next installment is available...

I love the characters
The author is really good at characterization and giving characters believeable motives in my opinion. The world they created in the novels fits together really easily. The use of time skipping gives us breaks from the main characters usual antiques and her chaotic life. Only to send us into more strife with characters that don’t want to fail. Since we also know people from both sides of the conflict we understand that there are reasons for the event occurring. Nothing in the story is one dimensional and while the author doesn’t focus too much on character interactions they still manage to get character feelings across really well.

It's all coming together
If I’m being honest, this Volume is definitely toeing the line between being the best of the bunch so far and being the most confusing. I’m honestly wondering how Okina-san will top herself going forward. In this Volume, there is so much going on, it’s almost too much to handle. We see war on two different fronts: the human-demon war happening between Shun and the rest of the human reincarnations, and the war happening between an area our spider has decided to hang around and the city just outside of the labyrinth. Both have some high stakes, and will most definitely will have implications going forward, though I guess the fallout of one of the wars has already been felt?I say that because since this series has side stories that take place in the future of the world our spider is living in, it’s difficult to determine just exactly when everything will line up. I’m actually really curious as to the motivations of some of the reincarnations and why they decided to side with the Demon Lord. It’ll also be interesting to find out if they actually know Ms. Oka’s (the teacher who’s tried to round up all the reincarnations) secrets. That’s one of the main reasons I’m so eager to keep reading: I want to know how this all plays out. I want to learn more about these characters we also see glimpses of, and I want to get to the point where we are in one timeline, instead of jumping around.Even with that said that, seeing how much spider-chan has grown, despite being borderline deus-ex machina-esque in a lot of cases, is always a treat to see. I love seeing how her plans almost always seem to work out. It goes to show just how much she’s grown, not only in skills and power, but wits. She’s had to constantly come up with plans, traps and strategies that would allow her to defeat things way above her standing, and even with how strong she’s become, you can never be sure if she’ll make it out of any given situation. I’m eager to see how much stronger she grows, considering she’s already one of the most powerful creatures in this world.I’m sure it’s going to be a wild ride.

I have no idea what to title this review.
I have no idea what to say, either.Wait, I've got something!I absolutely love this series. It has ideas, lore, and story that seem pretty obvious at first, but get really confusing when you dig deep. For example, I figured out that based on Sophia's character info blurb thing, the main story actually takes place years before the Chronicles Of Shun™®. Also, compard to another YP series that I won't name, there's less dumb luck overall, and when there is dumb luck, it's explained in-universe. The protagonist is even slightly self-aware! Overall, this is an awesome series and everyone should read it.NOTE: Typing on a Kindle is freaking hard, but I somehow did it anyways.

Swords, Sorcery, and... Mecha?
I'm going to be completely honest when I say that I was dumbfounded when this supposed fantasy series decided to then become a fantasy/sci-fi series. It now just adds to the mystery of whether the "administrators" are actually gods or just truly powerful people who utilized the system to their advantage to become just that strong. Also, it brings into question if really "D" is as evil as she claims to be or if what Guile states is that she felt bad their world's problems crossing over to the reincarnation's world. Now, the biggest surprise came about with the Elves and how they aren't following the stereotype of being such big nature lovers. Although, it seems to mostly fall on Potimas's shoulders for creating such a prideful and bigoted race. It is a real mystery on why he's going this far and how if he truly understands what he's doing. Finally, the biggest heartache is for poor Ms. Oka and what she has done in order to protect her students. It's quite clear that she doesn't truly understand the entire situation going on in the world only spending the time trying to save her students and tuning everything else out, which the most contributing factor being her unique skill and what it entails regarding the lives of her students. Also, while looking for the inevitable fight next volume, the epilogue in this volume both terrified and confused me on how that came about.

Continued the story after seeing the anime (S1)
Continued the story after seeing the anime (S1) and don't regret spending vacation time reading this. The translation seems good as it creates the same adventurous energy in the main characters like the voice actors and text lines of the anime... The visual mind is nudged of course...

Loved it
The story was fun and down to earth. It was a good intro to the events that involve the demon lords. I wish it had more about the spiders journey but it helps bring the party’s closer together, can’t wait for the next one

Ottima lettura
