I nearly let this one slip by me. Mighty mos def can't be ignored. He is a leading example of how to lyrically orchestrate and put out and album.

Another solid album from Brooklyn's finest that might take a few listens..
As an avid hip hop head who grew up in its golden era, Mos Def is easily my favorite artist, MC, and person for that matter. While his first two albums are iconic to say the least, The Ecstatic is altogether, a very different beast. With contributions from Slick Rick, Talib Kweli & Madlib, the album certainly showcases a number of solid tracks. It is also a departure from the raw, boom bap he is known for and will take most fans a number of listens to fully appreciate. Perhaps I still need to listen as this album hasn't grabbed me like Black on Both Sides & The New Danger. Now that's not to say that this isn't worth the purchase. Far from. Its simply different. And in today's sea of Trap and misguided lyricism, different is exactly what we need.
