Ever dreamed of naturally fermenting your own pickles or sauerkraut or kimchi at home? If so, then this stoneware fermentation crock imported from Poland is just what you need! This large crock features a water seal that allows gases to escape while preventing any mold from forming. That means less work for you and a fresher, more reliable result. Boleslawiec has recently made some changes to the design of this crock. The primary change is to use a smoother clay that results in a more even finish. This clay is lighter in color and weight, meaning the crocks don't weigh as much and are easier to move around. They have also improved the glazing process to result in a more uniform surface. In addition, the rim of the crock is now completely glazed! Finally, the shape of the lid has changed to be a higher dome shape. This crock comes with our exclusive non-porous 6.5" Luna Glass Crock Weights (protected by US Patents D812,426 and 10,034,483 B2). The correct size of weight is essential in keeping the contents fully submerged in order to properly ferment. We also include a recipe for both pickles and sauerkraut with each crock we ship! The 5L crock is great for those who are just getting started and want to experiment a little without spending too much. The smaller size is also ideal for those with small kitchens as it doesn't take up as much space. All you need to add is water, salt and your vegetables of choice, and you are only few weeks away from a pro-biotic rich, lacto-fermented superfood! Our crocks are made in Poland by Boleslawiec Pottery Works, a cooperative with many artists that work under it, either in factories or smaller studios. Each crock is handmade, resulting in an unique, natural product. Slight variation in finish and minor imperfections are inherent to the artisan production process. However, we hand inspect each crock before shipping to ensure that they meet our high standards.

It is beautiful. My girlfriend (I bought it for her as a gift) loves it. We've been fermenting in glass for several months, improvising weights out of plastic bags full of water. Can't wait to get this thing bubbling!Update, 8 months later: Buy this thing. It's fantastic. We have used it for several batches of kraut and curtido, and the process is dead easy with this beauty. The weights make keeping all the veggies under the brine a simple matter, and the airlock works great. The only thing you have to do is be sure there's water in the airlock. The 5 liter size holds 3 large heads of cabbage easily (once they're shredded). Last time I did a batch I was carefully weighing ingredients and we put in 6 lbs of shredded cabbage. I'm sure you could go to 7 easily, but with the glass weights, you need to be careful to leave 3 or 4 inches of headspace for maneuvering them into place. We are thinking about buying a second one of these so we can have more than one kind of ferment going all the time.

Excellent crock; excellent customer service.
I received my crock in the mail promptly, but when I pulled it out of the box it was cracked! I filed a claim with Amazon, and Stone Creek Trading contacted me the same day...and sent me a new crock in exchange for pictures of the damaged crock!! I didn't have to pay to ship it back, which was really cool of them. The customer service from Stone Creek is unmatched. I received my replacement crock in a very timely fashion. The crock is just what I expected and, though I haven't made anything with it yet, it shows every indication of a quality product. If I find any issues with it upon use I will leave a comment here, but as I said I don't expect any issues. The price is cheaper than the competition, and the quality appears to be great.

Procuct arrived cracked
My crock arrived chipped and looked like it had been glued back together. It was damaged on the inside as well. I'm very disappointed, given other customers had raved about how well it was packaged. I'm sending it back and will review the undamaged rpduct once I receive it.

It was easy to use and the kraut turned out great
I've made two big batches of sour kraut in this crock. It was easy to use and the kraut turned out great. The only complaint I might have is that the surface is a bit rough in a few places (such as the rim) and it catches bits from sponges and rags when cleaning. The glass weights are a really nice feature. This crock will get daily use in my home.

Cracked Crocked!
This crock cracked during the first use. I was able to successfully ferment sauerkraut without mold forming but the counter got wet and the vessel continues to crack. Even though the price is appealing, step up to a better brand if fermenting is your lifestyle. This crock is very disappointing and if Amazon offered a lower rating I would use it.

Nice crock, good price.
Already using the weights for various things but have not used the crock yet. However I did look at it really close for cracks. This appears black in the photo but it is a rich dark brown.

Beautiful, artisan made
Well packed so nothing broke. This is a nice sturdy crock. The glass weights are easy to clean. I made a wonderful sauerkraut that fermented in two days with no mold.
