Necessary reading for any Advaita student.
Read this book like you would the Upanishads or a Sutra.

Great, especially if teachings from India come easy to you
I've only read a bit over half so far. But I figure it is pretty safe to review now. I have trouble with the cultural gap, and find it much easier to understand modern Western teachers than older... even not much older... Eastern teachers. I find Ramana's teachings difficult, and Nisargadatta's, while easier, still pretty tough. Atmananda Krishna Menon is the easiest of the three. I have to read some entries 4 times, but that surely isn't a bad thing. I mostly get it, and what I get is very, very good. My favorite modern teacher is Rupert Spira, and it is easy to see Atmananda's influence. (Sometimes almost word for word.) I guess the litmus test is: "am I going to buy Volumes II and III?" I made that decision 20 pages into the book. They are sitting on my shelf waiting to be read after I finish Volume I. (Four stars is personal. My hunch is that someone who finds Eastern teachings easier than I will give it a slam dunk 5.)

Exploring the real world.
It is a very difficult book to digest but I think it will prove to be well worth the effort.

Excellent notebook that is essential for studying Atmananda's system.
This is a very helpful volume (actually in three parts, this being the first). It is extremely useful for those studying and practicing Sri Atmananda's Direct Path, which is a nondual tradition based on Vedanta and his own unique path of enquiry (internal and external). This volume was based on notes taken by one of his ardent students, and supplements Atmananda's two writings (Atmadarshan, AtmaNirvritti) which are essential for primary instruction. These volumes also make for excellent contemplation material and fuel for further inquiry.

Great Teaching from a Master
The book is direct and practical for all advanced seekers. A precious gem! Glad someone preserved what Sri Atmananda said.
