Works great; instructions not so much.

Bought this for a client to connect her HP Pavilion 15-cc123cl laptop to dual 1080p monitors, wireless keyboard and mouse, and LAN. It is well packaged and appears to be solidly constructed. It works well, once I figured out a key omission to their documentation. I can't confirm this is true of all laptops, but in this case, connecting it to this particular laptop via its 3.1 Gen 2 Type C port initially worked like a charm and she was excited to try out her new dual monitor setup. However, when she disconnected her laptop to take it home that night, and reconnected the next day, the monitors would not respond. This required another trip back to her office where, on further examination, I was able to determine that the dock needed to be turned off using the power switch in back, before connecting to the laptop, then turned on once it was connected. Once that undocumented procedure was followed, it connected right up and all connected devices, including monitors, worked fine. She has followed this procedure daily and the dock has been performing flawlessly ever since. In conclusion, this dock is a great value and works well in the configuration described above. My only complaint was the extra step in reconnecting that was not documented in the manual, and, in all fairness, may not be applicable to all laptops to which it is connected. I did like this dock enough to purchase a second one for a different client with a different laptop, so will update on that experience when I get her new dual monitor setup installed in the near future.

Great Product

I ordered this in order to be able to connect any computer I have to my monitors, keyboard, and mouse and it does exactly that. My wife has a mac, I have a Chromebook, and I also have a PC for work. I am now able to plug any device in with just the USB-C cable and have multiple monitors going, as well as all my peripherals. Talk about convenient! My only complaint. Setting everything up was a little bit of a hassle and I think it may have something to do with the included USB-C cable that came with the unit. At first, when I would plug any of my computers in, I would get no response. I then tried another cable and it worked just fine. However, I later realized that the USB-C cable that I swapped it with didn't transfer data as fast. I then decided to go back to the old cable, and it started to work. Now, only sometimes, when I plug in a computer to the cord, it wont respond. If I unplug/replug one time, it will work. Disclaimer, I did buy one of the used versions so that might be the reason why I am having the issues.

It actually works (when you install the driver)! Best value for what I could find on the market.

REMEMBER TO DOWNLOAD AND ***ENABLE*** THE DRIVER!Download:https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/615714-how-to-install-displaylink-software#macEnable:https://support.displaylink.com/knowledgebase/articles/1188004-macos-10-13-or-10-14-video-functionality-not-enabOkay, with that out of the way since those 2 items held me up for a few hours to understand with the DisplayLink chip inside this dock and so many others.Excellent:- 60W USB-C Power Deliver to 2017 15" Macbook Pro, I have barely noticed my battery charges slower but I have never "run out of power" compared to the Apple 87W charger.- Single USB-C cable (included!) for both power and dual-4K (or just dual-1080p) monitors.- Gigabit Ethernet "just works" whenever I reconnect, even automatically switching from WiFi insteadOkay:- CD was shipped with drivers... but I have no access to a drive to install the drivers. (Use the links above instead!)- The Manual isn't very clear how to connect the monitors, only a single HDMI or DisplayPort cable is needed for each monitor (at least for me, without 4K on each screen)Could be Better:- USB-A or USB-C ports on the front *do not* seem to provide any USB-C Power Delivery, not even 2.4Amps.Bottom Line:When I bought this in February, 2019 there were still so few options available on the market or they were significantly more expensive. This MediaGear device seems to be incredibly similar to a strong competitor in the docking station market yet at a much lower cost, but with all the same functionality. The included 100W power adapter has never lead me to any power issues of the dock itself (a common complaint of other models) and appears that it will not fail over time. For me, this dock does everything I needed at the best price-point I could find.

Best hub I've owned so far

Plug and play. Plugged in and worked the first time (2020 Asus laptop). I'm currently running a 32" monitor at 2560x1440 resolution on DP. I don't notice any screen lag. Also running a second screen via USB-c connection at 1080p. I have it connected to gigabit Ethernet and an external hard drive. Over-all speed is the best I've seen from an external USB hub like this. I'm happy with the price/value/features.While I am happy with this purchase but I would note that the power delivery is enough for a "thin and light" laptop but not enough for a gaming or high performance laptop like I have. However, on low power mode like doing office apps it's fine. I just have to remember to plug in if using my 6-core I7 for something intensive such as video rendering. It maintains battery at 100% but doesn't really charge unless it's idle. My other laptop runs full power on just the USB-c PD. So check your power requirements on your laptop before assuming PD will work. To be fair, I don't think even a 100 watt PD would work on this specific laptop because it is a full I7-9750 6-core. But if I forget to also plug in the power adapter to the laptop directly, it still works fine. I left it overnight once and the battery only lost 10%. But again, my other lower powered laptop was able to run and charge at the same time on just the power delivery.
