KEENMen's Targhee II Low Height Waterproof Hiking Shoe

Good sturdy walking/hiking shoes. The insole is very thick and good arch support. Past complaint for other Keen's is soles wear out way too quickly so we'll see how these do. If the soles "melt" off in a few months I'd change this review to a 3.

I don't normally write reviews when something positive occurs, more so I just complain when something goes wrong and then post about that. But I felt compelled to laud this hiking shoe, even though I've only used it on one 8 mile hike in the Angeles National Forest. My girlfriend and I hiked Mount Baden Powell this past Saturday 4/25/15 in what ended up being the perfect test environment for any hiking shoe or boot. A cold, windy day with plenty of unusual Southern California precipitation. Starting out at 37 degrees at 6,500 feet, my feet felt comfortable, warm and firm in these Keen's. Hiking up to between 8,000' - 9,300' it started snowing. We crossed over patches of snow as well as walking through mud. A good portion of the terrain we passed over was rock. On the way down as we dropped to 7,500' and below the snow turned to sleet and then became rain so we also crossed several puddles along the trail path. After completion my feet stayed warm, comfortable and dry. I've got fat/wide feet so these size 11's were very spacious and my feet didn't feel cramped. I've also got a pair of Vasque Taku GTX hiking boots and these Keen Targhee II's had an extremely similar feel to the Vasque's, just in a hiking shoe form instead of hiking boot form. They seem pretty sturdy and durable, but I can't give them 5 stars just yet because in my books an excellent product will have a long, productive and durable life. Like my Toyota or my Vasque hiking boots. I'll try to follow up with this post in a couple months or after I use them to hike Mount Whitney in September with these Keen Targhee II's and then possibly raise it to 5 stars if they are still going strong without a great deal of wear and tear.***Updated 8-24-16. These hiking shoes are by far the best hiking shoe's I've ever had. I don't even bother with using my Vasque hiking boots anymore. Besides, trekking poles help reduce ankle sprains anyway, so who needs a heavier/bulkier boot? The last 3 weekends I hiked San Bernardino Peak (16.5 miles 4700' elevation gain), Old Baldy Trail (13 miles 6,000' elevation gain) and last weekend Mount Whitney (23 miles 6,670' elevation gain) and these hiking shoes are now well over a year old and still kicking ass. Grip still great, comfortable enough and very durable, wide for my wide feet...I cannot praise these hiking shoes enough. Pair them with Thorlos wool hiking socks and your feet will do better and last longer than other poor suckers stuck in other shoes/boots.***

My last pair lasted about a decade, which included walking border collies each morning at 6am, rain, snow, or shine. Eventually, the sole separated from the boot, and no amount of shoe glue and waterproofing could keep them moisture proof But, we're talking a decade of daily use in plenty of wet and icy weather.This new pair is less than a year old, but I have every reason to believe they'll be with me for about a decade.In terms of fit, there is very little "breaking in" necessary. First time I put these on, I was off for a mile hike with my collie. They felt stiff compared to the previous pair, but this stiffness was gone within a week.Excedllent hiking boots.

Comfortable, rugged, looks good.Was a bit tight for size 10 but was still comfortable. My Keen mid hiker size 10 fit was perfectly.To me this shoe felt like a size 9.5, not size 10.

Great shoes for hikes in my mountain neighborhood. Unfortunately, these were accidentally returned to the seller due to a family miscommunication, I already have one pair, but wanted another color as well. I was however not thrilled with the color, which is not really an olive green, but more brown.

Comfortable, durable.

These are just great hiking shoes. Your foot plants on the ground in a very stable way. They have a nice wide toe box, which is great for my feet. I graduated my old pair to my garden shoes, and when the new ones get worn down, I’m sure I’ll get another pair!

I don't have extra wide feet. I don't have a very high instep. But I have a higher than normal instep with a wider than normal forefoot and a normal width heel - together, they make it difficult to find shoes that fit, particularly boots or work shoes. As I have a pair of original men's Keens that fit in my normal size (9.5 in men's, and not a wide), and because most reviews said that they worked well in wide, I ordered the 9.5 wide, as I figured I might need a bit more volume in a boot vs a shoe.Unfortunately, the 9.5 wide is too small and the top of my foot was squished. So, I removed the insole. Now I could get my foot in, but the heel area was too large and when I walked, the socks were sucked into the shoe. The width is OK, I believe, as is the length - they simply don't have enough space for the taller instep.So, if you have a wide (E or EE in men's) foot without a higher instep, these could be fine in your wide in you normal size. If you have a E or EE width AND a moderately high or high instep? These may not work. You could order up, but I think the heel might slip and they might feel too long, as the length on this is just fine.They look OK and while a bit stiff, they weren't hard to walk in. No idea on longevity and other features as they are going back.

I can get a perfect fit with these. They’re comfortable right out of the box and they last and last and last. I just got the new ones, but I’ve owned them for years in the past.

Sind die alten nach ca. 5 Jahren abgelaufen bei vielen Kilometern mit dem Hund und ständigem Tragen (wie gesagt abgelaufen, nicht kaputt!), werden immer wieder genau diese gekauft, da die Qualität absolut überzeugt.
