Yes they turn orange...but they work
So if the judgement of previous reviews are based solely on whether or not they keep their white color...then these should get 1 star... because they turn orange almost immediately when going into even clean fresh water. But....THEY WORK! Which is pretty important to me. All I know of that I had a tub with a slight oil residue on the surface...threw one of these in and the water has been crystal clear since. It really does clean up the water very well. So I'll continue to buy them... because I don't care about the color.***Update***My teenage daughter and her friend used the hot tub recently. Although we ask everyone to shower before going in, when she goes in with her friends, the water looks disgusting by the end. Imagine dumping a bottle of ranch dressing in the water....you get the picture. All the lotions and hair products are horrible. I threw 2 fresh sponges in the water and checked back the following morning. The water is now sparkling clean! To me, this was the ultimate test. These work.

Work well
They work well and absorb a bunch of gunk. My only complaint is I can't really rinse and reuse. They don't come clean like other types I've tried but these are significantly cheaper so it's not too bad that I have to replace them instead of reusing.

Falls apart quickly
Within 1 hour, the first one I put in my hot tub turned brown, gunked up, and started to fall apart. Interesting, because the water was clear, clean, and chemically balanced. I am uncertain whether this item actually absorbed oils and scum, or whether it was manufactured to produce a brown scummy surface once placed in water to make it look like it was actually working. For comparison, I tossed out the nasty "daisy", and put a ScumBug sponge in the tub. After 5 days, there's barely a ring of residue around it, and it is still in 1 piece floating on the water surface.Pricewise, 2 reusable ScumBug sponges: $10, 24 pack of these "daisies": $10You get what you pay for. I didn't want to risk these daisies disintegrating into my filtration system, so I will not likely use them again.

Color changes but they work!
My husband and I own a Hot Springs Relay which holds about 350 gallons. We are mostly the only two that use it. We previously had the Frog inline Bromine system and recently changed to Frog incline chlorine and added these sponges. We changed from bromine and other sponges we were using because from day 1 (3 years ago) we have fought to have a normal PH and alkaline level. Within DAYS of changing out the inline system and adding these sponges all levels were great!! Yes, these do turn orange within about a week so we change out 2 each time. For the price you cannot beat it. We think the orange has something to do with what it's absorbing from the water because when we take the center out of the flower, it is white. We will definitely keep these in stock. I will try maybe another brand to see if chemical levels change as we changed two things at once. I will say though any other sponges (we have tried 5 different brands from Amazon) we have purchased have absorbed a minimal amount so I really do think them turning color isn't a bad thing.

Snake oil?
Not sure what to make of these. The science seems sound, but in practice I have no way to measure if they actually work.In hot tub, they float and change color from white to brown in a few days and then start degrading and get caught in filter. Seems heat and UV speed this process up. If they are working then we must be really oily or these have a low capacity for absorption. They also float and change color from white to brown in a few days when placed in sink water so they are soaking up oil in treater water? I'm guessing if I leave them on the counter they will soak up air oil?

Easy to use
Got these for our Costco tiny hour tub. They seem to keep the water clean and don’t fall apart in the water. They are small enough to stay out of the way and shaped in a cute flower for a little decor.

Work great
Work great, turn color once they absorb stuff. I find they keep the water fresher and it becomes obvious when you need to swap them out. Fairly priced. Photo is when they need to be swapped out, arrive white and turn brown as they collect debris

Waste of money
These are shocking, they don’t grow to normal size once opened without putting in water. Once in water they just soak it up.Hopeless at collecting oil. Basically just a sponge.

Effective & Great Price
The media could not be loaded. We use our Hot Tub every day and Have kids in and out regularly. It drives my husband nuts as we can upset the water balance - let’s be real we are not making guests take a shower first and they do wear suits that have detergent in them! It’s also summer in Alberta Canada and lots of fuzz & bugs get in the water. We put three of these in yesterday (I think my husband thought they were crapy) I can literally see the dirt, oil and small little bugs/debris on them. Disgusting! Hot tub water crystal clear.Highly recommend to soak up any lotions/sunscreen/soaps/organic debris to help you keep your water… well just water! At the low price I’ll be throwing these out and replacing often. We have used the orange sponge in the past that costs $15 each but can’t be squished - we have kids and they always squish it so using these and throwing out is a much better option!

Appear to be working
Within a short period of time, the sponge did start to turn brown. No instructions on how long to leave in the hot tub so just assumed when it was fully brown to remove and change. The benefit of having lots on hand. After four days I changed the first one out. They are vacuum packed but they expanded for the most part 85 to 90% fully. Once in the water, they fully expanded. I kept them in an air-tight bag to keep moisture out.We shall see. So far good value for the price.

Not for hot tub use
Don't believe when they say can be used in hot tub. They turn dark orange within 2-3 days and break apart, plug your filter sock and little pieces that make in through the filter sock are visible in the filter median. Only used 3 and now I will throw the rest out and buy a different brand
