Great Book and a Trip Down Memory Lane
Fast paced, candid, fun, easy to read and shocking (if i had not grown up with many of these guys - but I did). And honestly, even I was surprised at some of their antics, and that they documented them! This book is written with humility and self-deprecating humor. Two qualities not often achieved in autobiographical books about “rock stars” and very refreshing. The author and the band were able to give us four different life stories, and show the reader how they got from there to here. They also chronicled the progression of alcoholism and addiction perfectly, in a way many people will relate to in some way. I especially like the way they showed the extreme level of denial that is involved in alcoholism, and leaves us wondering when Mike will really admit to himself (out loud) and surrender his disease. Hopefully before it costs him his life. That adorable daughter he clearly loves, deserves to have her father present physically, emotionally and spiritually. My father was an alcoholic man child, and while it could be fun and “cool”, it also left me wondering what it would be like to have a real parent. Kids do what they see, whether we encourage them to do what we say or not. This book was an honest look at the LA/Hollywood punk rock scene in the 80s which was a historically important, and really fun time. It was an inside look at the music business, and the reasons why so many got into punk early, and what the costs were physically, financially and socially to the pioneers of LA punk rock. It wasn’t always safe to walk around Los Angeles with a pink Mohawk, or in drag, even in Hollywood. The probability of getting in a fight, getting kicked out of places and being discriminated against was high to 100%. We were not even allowed in to Disneyland back then unless we dressed “acceptably” and hid our dyed hair and Mohawks, (it’s a family park, is what they told us and they got away with that crap back then!). So all you with pink streaks in your hair, and bondage pants during the 90s, or even now, can thank people me, and these guys, for paving the way, and paying the price. This book really communicates the tribe mentality and camaraderie among the punks in the beginning. Even though there was a lot of in-fighting amongst us, we had to stick together against the non-punks back then. I rate a book on many things, first and foremost: did it keep my attention, was it well written to the point that I forget the story teller and become immersed in the story, did I feel something or learn something from it, and did I enjoy it? All answers are absolutely! Read this book, unless you’re offended by bad language, addiction, alcoholism, criminal behavior, fighting, sex, kinky stuff and debauchery. Then you probably won’t like it. I loved it. Read it in a few days before bed. Fell asleep laughing. Bravo for this book NOFX.

Hilarious! Interesting! Sad!
Highly recommend for NOFX fans. Many funny stories had me laughing out loud. These guys have been through a lot, and it’s a fascinating story. It’s a page-turner for sure. It’s amazing that they’re so successful and are lucky to be alive, and also shows them in a very unflattering light at times. Brutally honest take on their individual histories, warts and all.

Very good book
This is one if those ‘ how are they still alive ‘ stories. Even if you don’t know or listen to NOFX it’s an amazing book. And if you do like the band, this book outlines the inner workings of that operation. It’s almost hard to believe some of the things they have gone through, but according to people in the punk scene, it’s all true. At least what they remember. It’s also an interesting insight on the development of independent record labels and the impact of DIY culture in music.

Excellent book. Hilarious, heartfelt, and Punk Rock!
Even as a teenager in the mid-90's who was really into punk, I could never get into NOFX as a whole. But even though I didn't really like their brand of punk rock, I always respected them and was amused by their attitude. So when this book came out, I was interested. While it took me a couple of years to get around to buying it, I tore through it quick! It is an excellent read. Very entertaining and insightful. While everyone tells different, hilarious, and heartfelt stories, Smelly really steals the show. Kind of like he does with his drumming.By the end of the book, when the guys started talking about heavy familial matters such as parents dying and whatnot, I gotta admit, a few tears were shed because by the end of the book you had a much greater sense of the individuals in the group and really felt for them.So yeah, you are gonna get plenty of talk about drugs, hijinks, and how incredibly stupid and violent the early 80's So. Cal punk scene was, but you also get to know the band as humans and individuals.Recommended to any fan of punk and fun storytelling in general. I was thoroughly entertained and sad when the book was finished, which is always the sign of a good read!

Good. I don't like the band but i like the book
Good. I don't like to band but I like the book. I saw them three times in the '80s but couldn't name a song. I just read it to read about other bands they encountered. And I wasn't disappointed. It was well written and funny and easy to read. I would recommend it to an 80s punkrocker

For Fans
I think most folks who have listened to NOFX will get a kick out of their self told history. Those folks and people who like stories about drug fueled violence and lunacy.Having listened to the band since I was a kid, I'm enjoying the book a lot.

Fun Read
I enjoy biographies and was looking for something light to read on vacation and this fit the bill. I have never really been a fan of NOFX, more in the category of, aware of that they were a band that made punk music. I may have a bought an album of there’s once because my friends listed to them, but that was the extent of knowledge of NOFX. However this book was entertaining and I learned a lot about the band members.

Funny as hell, tragic and disgusting all at the same time.
I'm always skeptical when a band puts their name on a product other than their music but this was genuinely an interesting/funny/disturbing read.I've been a NOFX fan for years but was a bit late getting around to reading this but I am glad I did. It's funny, tragic and disgusting all at the same time. Each chapter is an anecdote told by a member of the band and they've been arrange in chronological order so it takes you through the bands history with each tale giving you an insight into the crazy stuff that happened along the way. It's well written and easy to read and importantly brutally honest. All the anecdotes are interesting but for me personally Smelly's sections were the best. Some of the stories were quite disturbing but there was a genuine honesty about them and I found it really interesting. If you're a fan of the band I highly recommend it.

Les membres du groupe se mettent vraiment à nu dans ce livre... Pas de filtre! Drôles... bouleversants... surprenants... touchants... une belle cohésion de groupe ressort de ce livre!
