PAL 2000 KNIVES Custom Handmade Damascus Steel 11.4 Inches Dagger Knife - Bone Handle 8869

I gave this knife to my wife for her birthday (she loves awesome tools that are beautifully designed and made). I explained the Damascus steel aspect of the dagger and that the design was similar to (but somewhat larger and heavier) that a traditional Scottish dirk. I told her the Damascus steel can take and retain a very sharp edge, but that it is hardened beyond ordinary steels to the point that it can be "brittle," if used incorrectly. I probably should not have advised her not to try to pry open any paint cans with this knife. Well, I did, and it's a blessing that I still have lightning-quick reflexes. Just kidding, of course. She really liked it!

As shipped only the forward third of the edges was sharpened. The farther back towards the hilt the duller it got .I used a file to sharpen the dull edges. The steel was very hard, made the file skip if not careful. Took a lot of work but got it sharp for 75- 80 percent of edge length on both edges. Overall quality is good, looks are good, it feels good in hand. Suspect it would be easily broken at tip with the high hardness factor.

I cant complain! Shipping sucks, probably not there fault, knife is strong and you get what you pay for. This knife/company will be great when they have the proper funds and equipment. You can tell that they care about what they make and do the best they can with what they have.The leather work for the sheath need some help for fitting the knife, but does the job. I give it a 3.75 star out of 5. Dont stop. Keep going! :)

This is a very beautiful blade- the handle is quite comfortable in my hand. However, the the transition between the quillon and the ricasso is painful when my fingers slide forward.The balance was unexpected;y deep into the handle. It is about 1 1/3" towards the heel! I'm used to knives where the center of balance is at the crossguard or even further out beyond the quillons.Finally- I bought this knife a bit over two years ago and I've STILL not been able to remove the 'tacky' feel to the sheath! It looks OK,, but feels even now as though the outside was slathered in glue...

Damascus is awesome, already had a sharp edge. Sheath is very sturdy. Great valueWould definitely order from again

This knife had chips out blade. Was not razor sharp a poorly made knife. The handle was about only thing made well . The sheath was made well but was filthy.

I have purchased knives from Pal before. some good, some bad, and this one, which is stellar. This knife is proof that they have some very talented craftsman in their employ, but quality control is marginal. If the knife doesn't please you, doesn't match the quality of the picture you ordered from, SEND IT BACK! Hold them accountable and maybe we will have more knives like the one in my hand.

The blade is spectacular, love the Damascus pattern with a beautiful handle. However there is no finger guard and the hand slides up into the blade. Not exactly the safest knife to wield. Definitely a beautiful piece though.
