I bought a pair of these pencil holders to flank a larger pencil holder that I already had, and they work well. I later bought a third.The fit and finish are very good, except that the base of these holders are made of two pieces of wood that are consistently mismatched by a slight amount.The amount of mismatch seems to vary from item to item. On the third one that I purchased, it had the worst mismatch and the lower of the two pieces stuck out from one side by approximately 1 mm. It doesn't sound like much, but raw unfinished wood was clearly visible at the seam where the two pieces met.On the first two that I bought, the mismatch is slight and it missed my initial inspection, partially because there was no unsightly color mismatch to draw my attention to it.The leather is very dark and beautiful. It has a very soft pleasant feel. And, a soft pleasant leather smell that can only be detected if you press it up to your face :)The wood finish is a dark walnut with smoky highlights and almost no reddishness. It has a nice satin luster that is tasteful and not too shiny. It looks wonderful.There are four small felt-textured rubber feet to protect the desk and keep the pencil holder from sliding around.The exterior measures 3.1" W x 3.1" D x 4.0" H.The interior measures 2.5" W x 2.5" D x 3.5" H.They are the perfect size to flank the larger pencil holder that I already have and well on small and medium sized implements (markers, 6" ruler, correction pens, 4" to 6" scissors, etc.).They are also adequate for standard pens and pencils as well.However, I wish they would also make a larger model of these pencil holders. A larger size, such as an inch higher and wider would be a great option for bigger implements (larger scissors, rulers, etc.) and would complement these nicely.A satisfactory purchase.--------------------UPDATE 2013-02-16I bought a third one and it had a significant defect. The two wood pieces that form the base at the bottom have some physical mismatch between them and a thin strip raw wood color is visible at the seam. Touching it up with a permanent felt tip marker fixed it aesthetically.A closer inspection of the first two holders reveals that they also have some mismatch, but the mismatch is small and there isn't any color mismatch.I've updated my review above and removed 1 star from my rating to reflect the problems I encountered.Another reviewer has reported receiving a badly damaged or mis-constructed item, so it is possible that the problems run deeper than I have experienced.I decided to keep all three, since none of the defects are visible when they are placed on my desk and they are still visually beautiful accessories.Others may want to wait until the QC problems are resolved. As wonderful as I think the Walnut & Leather line-up of Dacasso products is, I wouldn't give this product as a gift until consistently good reviews are re-established.I currently have 13 products from the Dacasso Walnut & Leather line on 2 desks. Overall, they are impressive and I haven't seen better yet. But, the inconsistency is nagging.Also, I did buy one other product from Dacasso (a plain leather mouse pad) that was badly defective. I wrote a review on that bad product as well as several other reviews on the good products.Out of the 14 Dacasso items that I purchased, 2 had significant visible defects, and 2 had minor defects when viewed more closely.I am still buying Dacasso products - I bought some desk trays today. But, the defects have made me more cost conscience and I'm now buying them only when they are on sale with a good discount. The desk trays I bought today were 60% off full retail.I'm still looking to buy some letter holders and business card holders. I will also wait for those to go on sale prior to making the purchases. At sale prices, even with minor defects, they are a great value. At full prices, not so much.I sincerely hope that Dacasso can get things tightened up on the quality control side of things. I really like this line of products and hope that they will continue to make an even wider variety of them.-

Fake Walnut. It’s stained oak. Find a local craftsman who uses REAL WALNUT and get that. This was a disgraceful product. Craftsmanship was also appalling. I cannot stand mislabeling of wood
